Grant to Support Improvements at City's River Birch Tennis Center

GREENVILLE, NC – The City of Greenville's River Birch Tennis Center has been awarded a $29,970 Tennis Venue Services (TVS) Grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

Grant funding will support improvements to the facility’s court lighting system, designed to meet USTA standards, as mentioned below:
1. Installing two new light poles with fixtures
2. Replacing the existing light fixtures on twenty-three poles with new LED high-efficiency lights
3. Addition of lighting on Courts 7 and 8

In addition to the lighting enhancements, the contractor will resurface eight all-weather tennis courts, including structural crack repair, surface preparation, application of sand fortified acrylic coatings, and layout and striping of standard tennis court lines and Quick Start lines. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. These enhancements will improve the overall player experience, increase energy efficiency, and allow the facility to better support tournaments, programs, and community play.

The USTA’s Tennis Venue Services grant program is designed to enhance existing tennis facilities and expand playing opportunities in communities nationwide. Since 2005, the program has awarded more than $34 million in grants supporting nearly 2,500 courts across the country.

In addition to funding assistance, the USTA provides project management and technical support to grant recipients to help ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and capable of delivering high-quality tennis programming for the community.

This investment reflects the continued growth of tennis participation nationwide and reinforces River Birch Tennis Center’s role as a premier recreational and competitive tennis venue for Greenville and the surrounding region.
