Congratulations to Coach Castagno on being inducted into the Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026.

As the head coach of Tatnall’s cross country and track & field programs, Coach Castagno has built a legacy second to none. His teams have captured 62 state team championships along with an extraordinary 273 individual and relay state titles. Eight Tatnall teams and five individual runners have qualified for the Nike Cross Country Nationals, while more than 75 athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level. Among them are NCAA Champion Juliet Bottorff and Sam Parsons, Delaware’s first sub-four-minute miler.

Castagno’s Tatnall teams have also earned national recognition. The 2012 girls distance medley relay captured the prestigious Penn Relays title in a record-setting performance that stood for 13 years, and three Tatnall 4x1-mile relay teams have claimed national championships.

Castagno has been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Coach of the Year five times and Delaware Coach of the Year 15 times, and he was inducted into the New York Armory Coaches Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2025.

Coach Castagno’s impact on student-athletes, the Tatnall community, and the sport of distance running continues to set the standard for excellence.

The Delaware Sports Hall of Fame banquet May 28 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington. Tickets are $75 each with tables of eight available for $550 and are available starting March 23 on the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame website desports.org/inductee-banquet/.

The Tatnall Hornets Boys Varsity Basketball Program would like to congratulate Ayinde McLendon '26 on being recognized for his outstanding senior season. Ayinde was named First Team for the Delaware Independent School Conference. Congratulations, Ayinde!

March is National Athletic Trainer Month, and today we celebrate someone who has dedicated more than four decades to the health, safety, and success of Tatnall student-athletes, Fred Palfey.

For 44 years at The Tatnall School, Fred has been a constant presence on the sidelines, in the training room, and behind the scenes, caring for generations of Hornets. His commitment goes far beyond treating injuries, he has built relationships, supported athletes through challenges, and played a vital role in countless seasons and lifelong memories.

From first practices to championship moments, Fred has been there every step of the way, embodying what it means to serve a school community with professionalism, compassion, and excellence.

Thank you, Fred, for 44 years of dedication to Tatnall Athletics and for the lasting impact you continue to make on our student-athletes and coaches.

The Hive is buzzing with excitement, as both the Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball teams earned the privilege of hosting home first round state championship tournament playoff games next week. The #15 seeded boys host #18 Archmere on Monday evening at 6pm at Tatnall, and the #16 seeded girls host #17 Polytech on Tuesday at 6pm, also at Tatnall. Tickets are available for both games at this link:
