The Sleigh Ride - Asheboro, NC | July 18, 2026
Christmas in July, on two wheels. The Sleigh Ride is a festive community cycling event in Asheboro that we are proud to be timing. Choose your route, deck out the bike, and roll out with the local riding community for a holiday-themed morning in the middle of summer. A great cross-training day if your legs need a break from the running miles.

Run with the Burlington Sock Puppets! The 3rd Annual Sock Squatch 8K takes over Burlington Athletic Stadium on Saturday, July 25, and the organizers say this is the best year yet. Your entry includes a race shirt, a ticket to that night's Sock Puppets baseball game, and a free hot dog. All proceeds benefit the Alamance County Animal Shelter, and here is the kicker: if you slide into home plate at the finish, you get 30 seconds off your time.

The Long Life Meal Prep Cannonball Running Festival is now 18 weeks out, which means the standard marathon training block officially kicks off. If the full 26.2 is your fall goal, today is day one.

This week's tip: start easy and start social. Week one is about building the habit, not the mileage. Keep the pace conversational, get your long-run days on the calendar, and line up a training buddy or club before the volume ramps. The miles are easier when someone is waiting for you at the start.

The Moonlight Madness 5K and Monster Mile brings out some of the top competitors and those just looking to have a good time. Take on the two headed monster challenge, timed one mile and 5K! What an amazing afternoon celebrating the conclusion of the Spring Sprint Race Series season! Thank you to everyone who joined us to recognize accomplishments, share stories, play a heated trivia game, enjoy great food and drinks, and spend time together as part of our incredible running community.

The Race Series is about finish lines but also so much more —it's about friendships, encouragement, perseverance, community, connection and celebrating each other's successes. This weekend was a perfect reminder of what makes this community so special.

The ACSL Stride for Service 5K - Saturday June 6 - Elon

The Alamance County Service League's annual Stride For Service 5K raises money to uplift disadvantaged neighbors through community partnerships, volunteer work, and direct local support. A worthy cause, a friendly course, and a great Saturday morning option if you are based south of the I-40 / I-85 split.

The NC BK5K will be held on June 6th, 2026 in Greensboro.

Our mission of supporting area youth is possible because of the community support, and all proceeds go to various 501.c.3 youth organizations/programs demonstrating financial need. Funding grants will be evaluated for merit and dispersed by the local BK5K Youth Fund Award Committee. ​​​​​​​

The Long Life Meal Prep Cannonball Running Festival is 19 weeks out. If you are aiming for the marathon, the standard 18-week build kicks off next week . This is your last easy week before the real volume starts climbing.

This week's tip: lock in your plan before the block begins. With the 18-week build starting next week, use these next few days to pick a plan, mark your long-run days on the calendar, and find a buddy or club to share the miles with. The build is easier when it is on paper and shared with someone else. What better day to commit than Global Running Day?

The Running Festival offers the marathon, half, 10K, 5K and Kids Dash, plus the famous Double Barrel challenge: run Friday's 5K and Saturday's longer distance for an extra medal and extra schwag. Two parties, one weekend. Lock it in.
