You can’t micromanage in teaching.

Just because it was originally called “control”ology you have to remember that the teacher isn’t the one practicing the control, it’s the student.

They’re learning awareness, agency, regulation, control.

Just because you said a cue and they didn’t get it doesn’t mean the learning process isn’t happening.

Its input, trial, error, progress, redirect, trial, success.

As a teacher, you’re practicing awareness and guiding the experience. Offering routes and options. Not demanding an outcome based on perfect ideals.

In my early 20’s I used to have a strength trainer who told me this -
"Before you work out, you've got to work in."

At the time, I heard it, but sort of brushed it off.

It wasn’t until I had a herniated disc in my late 20’s and couldn’t walk that I was forced to stop and think about how I was moving.

I had been working out, pushing hard, thinking more was better.

The other thing he told me was “if you don’t slow down, your body will slow you down”.

With those two ideas in mind I took the time (not that I had a choice) to learn how to work in instead of out.

It was a slow process, limited truly by what my body was capable of doing that day.

I connected to what was meaningful in movement, what was supportive, what was challenging, when to push, and when to rest.

Pilates was that modality for me. It “returned me to life” (as is the title of the creator’s book) paired with prayer and surrender to the one who created life itself.

Don’t love working out? Try working in. It might work out.

Most people don’t realize what they’re missing until they feel it.

Hands-on spotting here isn’t just a cue—it’s a system of support and guidance. Every touch has intent. It directs, refines, and teaches your body where to go and how to get there.

Paired with a deep understanding of anatomy, it turns movement into something clear instead of confusing. You’re not just going through the motions—you’re learning how your body actually works.

When you understand the anatomy behind the movement, everything changes. You recognize your patterns and stop compensating- a pattern that results in discomfort and pain. Instead, you start organizing your body with intention, design, fluidity and efficiency.

This is what sets us apart.
Not more exercises—better ones. Not more effort—better direction.

This comes from years in specific study of systems of movement, anatomy and application.

That’s the difference of Authentic Pilates.

Pilates begins as something physical, but it rarely stays there.

Externally, the body refines, movement organizes, and strength becomes more efficient than forceful.

Internally, awareness begins to develops in parallel—you start to register subtle shifts, distribute effort more intelligently, and recognize patterns you didn’t know you were repeating.

Over time, it becomes less about doing exercises and more about how you’re in your body while doing them.

That relationship tends to extend outward.
You move with a sense of calmness, clarity, and ease. Many find they think and communicate with more precision, and carry a “restful yet alive” kind of presence into their interactions.

The visible changes are real.
But the more lasting shift is relational -
how you understand, respond to, and inhabit your body, and how that shapes the way you meet the world.

It’s not about more; it’s about better. Quality over quantity. Training appropriately for each season of your life. Moving with intelligence instead of exhaustion. Classical Pilates is just that, a time-tested system that grows with you and becomes a part of you.

This is Authentic Pilates.

This studio was born out of a desire to be a part of something greater than myself.

To help others restore their agency and power to be in touch with their mind and their bodies.

And to realize there is something so much greater within them than they could ever possibly imagine.

Authentic Classical Pilates: because it’s organized, tested, tried, true, purposeful and full of longevity.

There’s something holistic and deeper here, more than could ever be expected, hoped for or imagined.

The invitation to come and find out is always open.

BTS of a lil photoshoot the other day…it’s truly quite difficult to encapsulate all that we do at the studio (but this photographer did an OUTSTANDING job) Yes, Pilates, but it’s deeper than that - it’s connection not just to your body but to understanding ourselves in movement, relationships, and how we connect those things together.

This studio space is an incredibly special place where relationships have been formed, realizations realized, and bodies and minds transformed into something so much greater than anyone could have ever expected.

This is body, mind and spirit showing up in its fullness. PTL 🙏🏽

Not everybody walks in here doing this. (Or doing this correctly…🤓) Most people walk in wondering why their hip flexors are always tight, why their lower back won’t quit. This is just what happens when you stay curious and keep trusting the work.

The Living God, The Living Word, The Living Spirit. For you see, the kingdom of heaven is within your midst.

Why “He is risen” and not “He has risen”?

Because “is” is the present tense. He lives now, in us, if we believe - we receive the Spirit, his life. Beyond this present physical life continues on the spiritual - it’s why we have deep longings that stir within us that can’t be satisfied by this world or anything in it. Because we were made for another one, one we’re all headed towards, but in the now, we can have His Spirit as we journey there. It’s in our midst, He has walked out of the grave and into the hearts of those who believe. The light in the darkness that shines. The hope. The promise. The risen King. 👑

It’s been awhile since we’ve properly said hello! 🫶🏼

We’re Authentic Pilates - a professional Pilates studio in Greensboro built around thoughtful, intentional movement and real connection.

Every body that walks through our door deserves someone who truly understands the body and the work behind Pilates.
And that’s what each instructor brings to every session.

Anna-Preston has spent years studying movement at it’s roots - training alongside physical therapists, going deep into exercise science and kinesiology, and seeking out the best minds in the classical Pilates world. What she brings to the studio is both rigorous and deeply human: a philosophy that movement is never just physical, and that the work on the apparatus is always connected to something bigger.

Barbara came to pilates after her fourth child and loved the work so deeply, she pursued her certification with Romana’s Pilates International. With a background in special education, she brings a student-centerer, purposeful and cognitive-learning approach to every session.

Morgan is a UNCSA-trained contemporary dancer who has taught Pilates and dance across the country. She brings a professional performer’s eye to the work - precision, energy, artistry and a deep understanding of how the body moves at its best.

Every instructor has logged well over 600- 950+ hours of hands-on training, but more than that - we’ve all lived this work in our own bodies. That’s what makes it real.
