On October 24, ASI held the 4-day annual Whitetail Bow Hunt for physically disabled hunters at the Christus Memorial Church camp in Clintonville. Adaptive Sportsmen Inc. is a 501©(3) not for profit membership organization. (adaptivesportsmen.org).
Nine disabled hunters, one from Illinois, and volunteers from around the state came to participate in the hunt. Most folks stayed at the camp with a few opting to stay overnight at local motels. All enjoyed a warm wood burning fireplace, great food, camaraderie, and of course; a wonderful opportunity to get out into the woods to hunt. This year the weather was perfect with most of the hunters' seeing deer. One shot was taken and one deer harvested.
Hunting areas are identified, prepared, with ground blinds set up by the volunteers ahead of time. Hunters may bring their own equipment; others are provided ASI equipment including
chairs, bows, shooting sticks, and a personal guide as necessary depending on their disability and experience. Transportation to and from the blinds is accomplished by UTV’s, this year provided by R & S John Deere of Marion.
ASI would like to acknowledge and thank the Christus Memorial Church Camp for the hunt and accommodations, Clintonville School District for allowing access to the school’s nature reserve,
and the following businesses whose donation of equipment and food made this hunting event possible. Special thanks this year to Adam from R & S John Deere, and of course our wonderful cook and volunteers.
