*SELF-DEFENSE BEYOND THE DOJANG*
Self-defense is important—and real-life situations don’t happen on a nice, padded dojang floor.
That’s why Wednesday night, our Ladies Self-Defense class took training outside.
In sandals and on the gravel, our women and young ladies practiced breakaways, striking with power, and applying techniques on a surface very different from the one we normally train on. Training in a different environment helps us understand how techniques may feel when footing, clothing, and surroundings aren’t ideal.
We then explored several different vehicles, giving our ladies hands-on experience locating and using emergency trunk releases. We also discussed what might be available around us to help us escape, draw attention, or protect ourselves in a dangerous situation.
Because practical self-defense is about much more than physical techniques.
{ Awareness. Avoidance. Drawing attention. Being mentally prepared.}
Our goal is to give our women and young ladies as much practical knowledge as possible. We want them to be aware of their surroundings, recognize potential danger, trust their instincts, understand their options, and have the confidence to respond if they ever need to defend themselves.
💜 There’s another part of Wednesday nights that we especially value.
Our adult women train alongside our pr***en and teen girls. They learn together, encourage one another, laugh together, and build relationships. It gives our younger ladies an opportunity to train beside positive, supportive women while allowing all of us to mentor, encourage, and learn from one another.
🥋 Master Tonya loves Taekwondo and Hapkido, but has a special passion for practical self-defense and sharing that knowledge with women and young ladies. Assistant Instructor Jessica Vandiver is her trusted assistant—always ready to jump in, demonstrate, participate, and provide the perfect backup. They complement each other well and share the same goal: helping our ladies become more aware, more prepared, and more confident.
Master Tonya managed to capture a few photos along the way while leading class. These are just a few snapshots of the evening—all of our ladies, young and grown, participated in the hands-on training!
We are so grateful for this group. We take self-defense seriously, but there is always plenty of encouragement, laughter, and fun along the way. 🥋💜
Knowledge builds confidence. Awareness can help prevent a situation. And knowing how to respond can make a difference when it matters most.
GREAT JOB LADIES! 💕💪🏻🙂
