JKA Maine Karate Academy JKA Maine Karate Academy is organized to provide the community an affordable opportunity to train in an authentic Shotokan Karate.

We are a fully accredited traditional karate dojo, offering classes for men, women, teens & children of all levels under the supervision of Chief Instructor Sensei & Chairman/Owner Sensei Ferdinand Torres, JKA 4th Dan & Okinawa Kobudo 6th Dan. Our academy instructor and senpai's treat individuals as students, NOT CUSTOMERS! Our objective is to give students a means of developing character while b

eing strengthened both physically & mentally. Training is demanding and promotions are earned, NOT GIVEN! Our students are exposed to the full curriculum of Shotokan karate, and students with advanced rank are introduced to traditional Okinawan kobudo. We are an affiliate member of JKA/American Federation.

This weekend was truly special for JKA Maine as we celebrated our 10‑Year Anniversary with Naka Shihan.
Four days filled with strong training, meaningful learning, and the joy of reconnecting with friends old and new.

To everyone who traveled from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Miami, Louisiana, Mississippi, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Canada: thank you for bringing your spirit, strength, and support. The entire JKA Maine team is sincerely grateful for each one of you.

Day 2 delivered a truly unforgettable moment as Naka Shihan personally presented JKA Diplomas to our JKA Maine black belts — a milestone that will forever be part of our dojo’s history.

To Naka Shihan — thank you for your guidance and inspiration. May you continue to motivate karatekas around the world.

A handful of JKA Maine members traveled to New Orleans for the JKA A/F 2026 Summer Camp with special instructors Ogura Sensei and Kurihara Sensei. It was an excellent camp filled with learning, growth, and inspiration.

I'm proud to share that Ben, Ariana, and Mika passed their Sandan exams, and the girls also passed their certification exams.
