Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸

Today we're grateful for the men and women who have served our country, those who continue to serve, and especially those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Thank you to you and your families for your sacrifice.

We hope everyone has a safe holiday with family, friends, and maybe even a run before the cookout.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Vulture Vista.

I smiled every time I saw kids out on the course.

Some were chasing a time.

Some were just seeing what they could do.

Either way, I hope they left excited to come back.

Thank you to all the trail runners for setting such a great example and sharing the trail with the next generation. I have a feeling some of these kids will be talking about this race and the runners they met for a long time. They make the race fun.

Hopefully they keep coming back.

The future of trail running looks pretty good.

If you've never been to the DePauw Nature Park...
It's worth the trip even if you don't run.
The race gets us there once a year.
The trails are there the other 364 days too.

Thank you DePauw University for taking this old limestone quarry and making it available to the community.

If you know these two, you've probably been to an Indiana trail race.
Three years in a row they've shown up for Vulture Vista, and we're grateful they keep coming back and gracing us with their grit and humor.
Now it's your turn... the comments are open. Give this photo a caption. 👇😂

I've probably looked through these pictures three or four times already.
Every time I do, I notice something different.
Somebody helping another runner.
Somebody laughing.
Somebody looking like they're questioning every decision that led them here. 😂
Craig Wilcox caught a lot of moments I completely forgot about.

There's more than one way to be part of an ultra.
Some people run.
Some people crew.
Some people volunteer.
Every one of those roles matters.
Before sunrise and all day long, volunteers were setting up tents, filling coolers, directing parking, checking runners in, marking trails, taking photos, handing out awards, and making sure every runner had what they needed to keep moving.
Every mile covered this weekend was supported by someone who chose to give their time so others could chase a goal.
That's one of the things that makes trail and ultrarunning special. You don't have to pin on a bib to belong. Whether you're running, volunteering, crewing, or simply cheering someone on, you're part of what makes this community special.
To every volunteer who gave up your Saturday to help bring Vulture Vista to life—thank you. We couldn't do it without you.

Suffer Well.

What is Vulture Vista?
It's more than a race.
It's a place where people choose to do hard things together.
Some runners came to see how many miles they could cover in 12 hours..30, 50, 70+ 😳. Others came hoping to finish their first 4.5-mile trail race. Every goal mattered.
Along the course you'll find volunteers who know your name, experienced ultrarunners cheering for first-timers, and families spending the day encouraging complete strangers.
That's the culture we're trying to build.
Every registration helps support A Kinetic Change and the Greencastle cross country program, but what we're most proud of is the community that continues to grow around this event.
Thank you for making the 2026 Vulture Vista unforgettable.
Suffer Well. We'll see you in 2027.

Three years ago, Vulture Vista was just an idea.
Not to build the biggest race.
Not to build the fastest race.
Just to build the kind of race we'd want to run.
This week, we were honored to see Vulture Vista included in UltraRunning Magazine's Weekend Recap.
For a third-year race in Greencastle, Indiana, that's something we'll never take for granted.
What makes me smile the most, though, isn't seeing our name in a magazine.
It's knowing these photos tell the real story.
A volunteer getting sprayed by a kid with a bubble gun.
A race director fist bumping an exhausted runner.
Friends embracing at the finish line.
People choosing to do hard things together.
That's the race we set out to build.
We'll keep showing up.
We'll keep improving.
We'll see you at Vulture Vista 2027.
🦅 Suffer Well.

What happened on Saturday was bigger than a race.
132 runners came to DePauw Nature Park with different goals.
Some were chasing a buckle. Some were running their first ultra. Some wanted one more lap. Some simply wanted to prove something to themselves.
By the end of the day, strangers were cheering for strangers.
Volunteers knew runners by name.
Families spent the day encouraging each other.
People who thought they were finished found one more lap.
The mud, humidity, bugs, rain, and hills became part of the story.
But they weren't the story.
The story was watching people discover they were capable of more than they believed.
To every runner, volunteer, sponsor, photographer, artist, t-shirt maker, family member, and spectator...
Thank you.
You are what makes Vulture Vista special.
