I have run marathons in almost all cities in the world where Olympic Summer Games were held, but I am missing a few: Mexico City, Seoul, Munich, Montreal, and Sydney.

I wanted to extend my Olympic Marathon series by signing up for the Montreal Marathon on September 22. Unfortunately, it was sold out already (more than 25,000 runners expected). Except for Montreal, I have completed marathons in all other North American cities where Olympic Marathons were run: St. Louis (held in 1904), Los Angeles (1932, 1984) and Atlanta (1996). I am also missing Mexico City.

The Olympic Marathon Club started with Emil Gluekler of World Runners who has completed 64 marathons on 6 continents, 29 countries and 55 cities. Emil has run marathons in 15 of the 23 cities were Olympic Marathons were held or have been scheduled.

"It is always a great adventure finishing a marathon in an Olympic Stadion, but in some cities the original race course changed over time. And yet, to have the experience of running in a city where the best marathoners from many nations have competed for Gold is very special. My running career started out with World Runners with the Tunis International Marathon (1986), Moscow Peace Marathon (1987), New York Marathon (1987), Melbourne (1988), Rio de Janeiro (1989), etc., and running international races had become my passion and challenge. 25 years later, I still keep going. My dream is to finish all of them."
