Not the whole story about the carbon monoxide, but many have asked. Here is a short version that I will elaborate on in the future. I pray this saves someone’s life! I’m trying to soak up as much family as possible, especially after these events. WOOD BURNING 🔥 YES, IT CAN HAPPEN!!!
Long story short, but I’m so thankful we had ONE detector by accident. Scary we had it upstairs & it went off. The levels down were way worse & I was feeling sick well before it went off. At the time we thought we were good because we thought it was like smoke and rises 😔
I didn’t know why I felt a headache and nauseous. I assumed it was all the bugs going around. The alarm upstairs went off. We barely heard it. We were around the stove warming up as we have been all week long (day & night). I was up more in the kitchen warming up chili on the stove while Adam kept going in & out to the smoker cooking (he had more fresh air thank God). Super sad part is our boys, especially Kase, was around the stove more than anyone. He said he didn’t feel good and was tired laying around on the couch. He often does this so it didn’t alarm me at all! We had the wood stove open to let the wood coals turn to ash, because it was so much that it was hard to put more wood inside to start another fire. There wasn’t any smoke, no smell, nothing at all to think anything was bad. I barely heard the detector upstairs chirp. I had to have the kids mute the tv, which wasn’t up loud.
I didn’t know carbon monoxide is heavy & stays low, I didn’t know that the only reason the upstairs, our one & 😔only one, went off was because we had the blower on the stove still on PRAISE GOD!!!!🙌🏼
I’m learning so much more now that makes me sick. Even after I made those posts, we could have died. We still didn’t have detectors on our main level where we sleep & do everything until earlier today because I learned more! We didn’t have the fire dept check our home. We opened windows & doors, but not for the hours needed. When I woke this am many friends informed me more & I was terrified. I wasn’t informed enough to realize that until I read a friends post, Jessica,
THIS MORNING!!!!!!! We locked the dogs on the porch & braved driving on ice to get more detectors at the closest store. I wasn’t going to have my family inside again until I knew 100% it was ok. Sadly, the only thing telling me it was likely ok was we didn’t die overnight and that still rocks my gut 😭 HOW CAN ANYONE look back & realize the only reason you believe your home is ok is because your family woke up 😭
