Sunday saw an awesome day of racing on a perfectly prepared track at Dyer Park. However, I was reminded of the phrase - 'Man' makes plans, 'God' laughs. I climbed to the 2nd step on the podium, but more by luck than judgement, perhaps. My chief class rival (Spero) bent his chain-ring early in the first lap, which promoted me to 3rd. I quickly promoted myself into 2nd after a tactical climb, and then it was game-on to a grueling hour long finish. Spero eventually hauled himself into 3rd using brute force and sheer strength of character, even besting my second lap time by almost 60 seconds (nicely done sir).
A post-race bike check revealed just how lucky I was to even finish. I pulled several lengthy thorns from my front tire, all of which hissed and bled sealant. My rear tire was down to 15 psi, which also sported several broken thorns and a 1/4" gash. Then... this morning, less than 200 yards into my recovery ride on the levee... my egg-beater fell off.
Today is supposed to be a rest-day, I guess!
On to Oleta-River-State-Park in Miami for the final race of the Coconut Cup MTB series (with a new set of Maxxis tires and new Crank Brothers pedals.)
