It’s been a while since we’ve seen our trails sabotaged. It’s not my place to judge the sick individual(s) who would lay ‘rusty-barbed-wire’ on a bike trail, but I’d be happy to introduce them to someone who can...

This nasty ‘relic’ was found across the Pinehurst MTB trail in Pam Beach County. Riders beware!
(Relic=rusty-barbed-wire, not Joseph Cos 🤭)

I have traveled to many places around the world where I felt like I just 'visited', and then there are places where I felt like I belonged, from the moment I arrived. Santos tails, and Santos Bike Shop is squarely in the latter category. As a complete stranger, I was welcomed, not as a customer, but as (MTB) family. Quality service, value for money, interesting characters, great conversations and thoughtful advice. There is passion for our sport in this place. Go get you some!

Fasted or Fed...?

This morning's ride was a structured, 26 mile haul along the levees of the Arthur Marshall Preserve, ridden before breakfast, mostly at the threshold between HR Zone-2 and Zone-3.

The ride data suggests approximately 1300 calories burned, 40% of which coming from fat. However, riding fasted, and hopped up on caffeine, the 'fat-tap' was likely wide open.

There may be quicker ways to burn more calories on your bike, but if you're riding to lose weight, especially if you're into KETOSIS, you can't go wrong with this protocol.

Are you riding your bike to lose weight? Tell us YOUR story!

Sunday saw an awesome day of racing on a perfectly prepared track at Dyer Park. However, I was reminded of the phrase - 'Man' makes plans, 'God' laughs. I climbed to the 2nd step on the podium, but more by luck than judgement, perhaps. My chief class rival (Spero) bent his chain-ring early in the first lap, which promoted me to 3rd. I quickly promoted myself into 2nd after a tactical climb, and then it was game-on to a grueling hour long finish. Spero eventually hauled himself into 3rd using brute force and sheer strength of character, even besting my second lap time by almost 60 seconds (nicely done sir).

A post-race bike check revealed just how lucky I was to even finish. I pulled several lengthy thorns from my front tire, all of which hissed and bled sealant. My rear tire was down to 15 psi, which also sported several broken thorns and a 1/4" gash. Then... this morning, less than 200 yards into my recovery ride on the levee... my egg-beater fell off.

Today is supposed to be a rest-day, I guess!

On to Oleta-River-State-Park in Miami for the final race of the Coconut Cup MTB series (with a new set of Maxxis tires and new Crank Brothers pedals.)

Congratulations to Spero Mehallis on his first MTB-XC class win at Virginia Key - Biscayne Bay - FL, on Sunday.

A big THANK YOU to our race sponsor, 'Kali Protectives'.
I'll be asking them to send me a new helmet to test. This one didn't survive the Coconut Cup kickoff race in S. Florida this weekend. Thankfully, I DID. Although this (not so) 'minor' incident forced my retirement in the closing stages. Survival of the better equipped - Kali Protectives!

Always wear a helmet - No excuses!
