Migraine Management

While a headache can mess up your day, a migraine can ruin it. Though it's unclear what causes migraines, neuro-inflammation likely plays a role. Here are some natural remedies to try to give yourself some relief:

Magnesium is a cheap and common migraine treatment. Try taking a daily magnesium supplement (between 400 mg and 600 mg) made up of magnesium glycinate.

Acupuncture can decrease migraine frequency.

Caffeine reduces inflammation, which can lessen migraine pain.

How many grams of sugar are there in a teaspoon? 4

What is considered an added sugar? Cane sugar, honey, and corn syrup

Which sugar is found mainly in fruit? Fructose

What are the different kinds of sugar? Fructose is found in fruit, sucrose is table sugar, lactose comes from dairy, and glucose is produced when your body breaks down the other types.

Fruit juice is not healthier than soda. It contains about the same amount of sugar as Mountain Dew.

Sugar does not directly cause diabetes but it can play a role in the disease's development.

The Amazing Power of Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into one or more of the body's 2000-plus acupuncture points. Each one is located near a vascular bundle that contains a nerve, artery, vein and lymphatic vessel in the space between muscles. The effects of stimulating specific points have been scientifically verified. It may be used for back pain, tooth extraction, surgical pain, nausea and vomiting, painful menstruation, and addiction.

5 MYTHS ABOUT COFFEE

Caffeine addiction is a real problem. When it comes to caffeine or coffee, "addiction" may be too strong of a word. The physical health and social consequences of caffeine use are not serious. Caffeine raises dopamine levels only slightly that's why caffeine withdrawal symptoms are manageable.

Coffee is dehydrating. Caffeine is a diuretic, so coffee makes you p*e more, but drinking even as much as four cups a day won't dehydrate you. That's because the water in the coffee "balances out the slight diuretic effect of the caffeine."

Drinking coffee sobers you up. Drinking coffee does not get alcohol out of your system any faster.

Darker roasts have more caffeine. A darker roast simply means the beans have been roasted longer, not that there's a different amount of caffeine in them. Measured scoop against scoop, darker roasts can actually contain less caffeine than lighter roasts.

Coffee is bad for you. Just the opposite. Research shows that drinking a moderate amount of coffee (about two to five cups a day) reduces the risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson's disease, liver cancer, and depression.

AVOID SKIN CANCER...DEBUNK THE MYTHS

Myth #1: A beach umbrella keeps you safe from the sun.

Reality: When you're at the beach, a large percentage of ultraviolet (UV) light bounces off the sand onto your skin, even if you're under an umbrella.

Myth #2: Sunscreen with a sun-protection factor (SPF) of 45 is three times more effective than SPF 15.

Reality: A sunscreen with an SPF of 45 is only about 5% more protective than an SPF 15 sunscreen. The higher-rated doesn't last any longer either.

Myth #3: Sunscreen provides complete sun protection.

LIVE LONGER, FEEL BETTER

Take Spirulina. Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows wild in warm waters around the world. It contains all the essential amino acids in a highly absorbable form and is a rich source of protein. Take 2,000-3,000 mg per day.

Eat Berries. They contain flavonoids, which have potent antioxidant activity that can go fight heart disease. Eat one-half cup of berries, grapes, or cherries or drink 4 oz. of purple grape juice or red wine daily.

Drink Green Tea. It helps protect the liver and fights cancer. Drink two or more cups daily.

Limit Dairy. These foods contain the most common food allergens. No more than 5 servings per week.

Select Ezekiel Bread. All whole grains are rich in fiber. One slice a day is recommended.

Eat Garlic. It builds immunity and prevents infections. One-half to one whole raw clove daily (cooking reduces its benefits) or try an odor-free supplement.

Dine Early. No eating after 7 p.m.
