The note below is from Mary Martin, who was fortunate to see this flower in bloom. I read online that a large crowd gathered even before the conservatory opened to catch a glimpse of this rare occurrence.

"This plant is known as the 'co**se flower' and is native to Sumatra. They only bloom once every couple of years. and usually for only 24-48 hours. This one lives in the Como Park Conservatory in St. Paul, Minnesota. It started blooming this past Saturday (6-6-26)."
Supposedly, the plant smells like rotting flesh, and so the name is co**se flower. To learn more, check out this linkhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amorphophallus_titanum

A note from Denise O'Brien
Four enthusiastic bird photographers braved the heat to visit a caracara nest outside Tucson with me. The babies are fully feathered out and look ready to fledge soon. After a spring of several Great Horned Owl babies dying, it is great to see these caracara parents with their three healthy chicks.

ATTENTION BIRDERS
Saw this resource online from GV News
Did you know Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation offers monthly virtual presentations on birds and birding? It’s called the “Adventures in Birding,” and the next one on May 12 is at 7 p.m. They will look at the cactus ferruginous pygmy owl, one of the species protected by the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan. The SDCP is Pima County’s plan for balancing conservation and protection with a responsible community. The free presentation kicks off the 25th anniversary celebration of the SDCP with the bird that started it all. Register online for this event, and others with a Pima County Naturalist, on the county's eventbrite page. You can find more fun environmental education programming from Pima County through the Conservation Lands and Resources page.

"A day spent photographing Great Horned Owls and their chicks is a day well spent. Each of these owls are found in locations locally and in Tucson. Each image is of a different bird captured in the morning and at Dusk. "
