❓🤷♀️ Why Shopping Local Should Be Important To Me 🤷♂️❓
When we first moved to Green River, one of the most common themes we heard was "shop local" over and over. We heard it ALOT and it was a new concept for us. Where we were born and raised, shopping local wasn't something you ever heard and we definitely didn't understand the importance. With big-box stores and online giants flooding the market, it's easy to forget the small, local businesses that form the heart of our communities.
Lately, I've been thinking about how important shopping local is and I started to wonder how many people, like myself, don't understand why it's so important. You may hear it all the time, but you may not know the role it plays in your community. Below are just a couple of quick "did you know" bullet points that will hopefully illustrate it's importance.
If you have read this far, please take a moment to share this post. Even if shopping local is your life blood, there may be someone in your social circle that has forgotten it's importance and may have their dedication reignited by reading this post. It's so easy to stay home in our pajamas, curled up on the couch with our favorite warm beverage and just order online. I know I've been guilty of that in the past! Let's change that! Let's get back out there, show up for our local businesses, support them and believe in their dedication to our community ❤️
• Economic Impact
Shopping local strengthens the community by keeping money
circulating in the community. Roughly 67 cents of every dollar
stays local, which supports local jobs, and funds public services.
• Unique Value
Local shops offer unique, curated, or handcrafted items that
cannot be found in chain stores.
• Giving Back
Small businesses are more likely to support local charities,
youth sports, and schools.
• A Simple Choice, A Big Impact
Making the choice to shop local benefits the economy, protects
the environment, and preserves the unique identity of your
community. Whether you're planning a gift purchase, a home
improvement project, or just your weekly errands, remember:
buying local is a win for everyone.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting local and for supporting us. It means absolutely everything!
