An Important Message to the Colorado Grit Community
Earlier this month, the City Attorney for the City of Greeley informed your Colorado GRIT Hockey Team the City was terminating our lease at the Greeley Ice Haus - 3 years early of its 5 year term.
From day one, the City failed to uphold critical terms of the lease, from providing a working public address system to not cutting the team a single check from their all-important food and beverage revenue every sports team depends on to survive.
This despite clearly being defined in the August 4, 2023 lease that was signed by City Manager Raymond Lee, and then enforced by Greeley’s City Attorney.
While we believe this early termination constitutes a wrongful eviction, the damage is now done and the league has suspended your GRIT for one playing season. We will address legal matters through the proper courts - not here. But, rest assured, we will pursue.
In the meantime, our immediate goal tonight is to offer reassurance and hope to our incredible GRIT Hockey fans, our tremendous billet families, our players, our player families, our sponsors and the broader NOCO hockey community.
Let us be absolutely clear; We were ready to remain and work on our differences. The City was not. The result is a stunning blow to the community, especially downtown.
Second, know that The Colorado Grit will return—bigger, stronger, and more determined than ever in the 2026–2027 season. It’s just a question of where, not when. This temporary setback will not define us.
To those who have made financial commitments - season ticket holders, sponsors, partners - you have our word: you will be made whole. All we ask is for a few days to gather ourselves after this sudden development that was formalized only 7 hours ago.
