Cold weather doesn’t mean water safety takes a break. Please read and share. ❄️💧
As we prepare for the upcoming winter ice storm, we want to remind families that water safety and drowning prevention remain just as important in winter as they are in summer.
If you have an automatic pool cover, it should be opened before heavy snow or ice to prevent damage. An open pool, however, increases water-safety risk, so please stay extra vigilant. Ensure all doors leading outside or to pool areas are securely locked, and if possible, use door alarms for added protection.
Many families also fill bathtubs ahead of storms in case of power or water outages. Bathtubs filled with water pose a serious drowning risk for babies and toddlers. Please keep bathroom doors locked and never leave standing water accessible.
Additionally, do not leave buckets, containers, or any standing water where a child could reach them.
A few small precautions can make a big difference. Let’s all stay safe, prepared, and vigilant this week. 💙
