Extreme Stress Shooting

I set up today for the busy week ahead. Three traveling family groups stopping in for classes. One group has requested to shoot the flintlock. Also have a 1 on 1 basic handgun class. Looking forward to it as they are all small classes so I get more interaction with each student.

Just a reminder to the members of the range. Crooked Falls Practical Shooters are having a USPSA match at the range tomorrow. Range will have limited use until the match is finished. Usually finished between noon and three depending on number of competitors.

Safety meeting is at 9 & they will start shooting by 9:20. Set up starts at 7 & if you wish to compete you need to be there to help set up.

You are welcome to come watch all or part of it. For safety they run a cold range. That includes everyone on the range, (even the guy that owns the range). That means no rounds or magazines in the gun until the competitor is told to “Load & Make Ready” by the Range Officer.

They have competitors of all levels, beginners on up. Don’t be shy. Come watch all or part of the match.

Rifle Skills - We teach those too.

Defensive shooting and marksmanship aren’t the same, but I would argue they both start in the exact same place.

You can’t shoot, move, and communicate before knowing how to disassemble and reassemble your rifle.

Mastering the basics is the foundation for your confidence.

There are two events here this coming weekend (11 & 12 July 2026).

There is a Steel Challenge match on the 11th so the majority of the bays will be closed Saturday until the match is complete. See the Crooked Falls Practical Shooters page or their website for more information. It is open to all level of shooters and is a great way to spend part of your day.

The second event is a USCCA instructor course. It is a two day course (11th & 12th) and the course instructor is Julie Hill, ( [email protected] ) from Bozeman, MT. See the link below for more information and to register.

In my experience, quality guns work well and do what they are designed to do consistently. I am about fi****ms training and supporting the 2nd Amendment. I love that people that came here as kids are now bringing their kids to the range. For too long the legacy media has pushed the antigun narrative. With what we have seen from the east coast elections recently, it is clear to me that the "other side" is winning when it comes to rational thinking about how many things work. Hopefully, "Welcome Gun Rights Insights" will be able to inform people on common sense gun ownership and to use rational thinking when it comes to guns and why we have a 2nd Amendment.

For far too long, antigun groups have been nothing more than snake oil salesmen. They claim to speak for a vast army of grassroots citizens but the reality is these groups astroturf. They aren’t rooted in anything more than antigun animus. They’re also not nearly as down-to-earth with the people...
