He tried to control everything for years. Then he gave it up. And the gold buckle he had been chasing for a decade got closer than it had ever been.

Born and raised in Browning Montana — a small community on the Blackfeet Reservation at the edge of Glacier National Park — Chase Brooks grew up surrounded by rodeo before he was old enough to choose it. His grandfather Mouse Hall was a stock contractor. His dad rode bucking horses. He rode his first sheep at his grandpa's summer rodeo. Then steers. Then junior bulls. Then at fourteen years old he climbed on his first saddle bronc and said — that was it. That was everything.

He turned professional in 2013 and spent years building the kind of reputation that gets whispered about in locker rooms before it ever makes headlines. Then from 2018 through 2023 he qualified for six consecutive National Finals Rodeos — placing in rounds, earning checks and finishing as high as fourth in the world standings in 2021 with over $259,000 in earnings across one of the finest seasons of his career. Forty rodeo wins across just four seasons. A saddle bronc rider whose consistency and athleticism put him in conversations about the best in the world — even as the Wright brothers dominated every headline above him.

Then life handed him hardships that forced him to step back. He missed the NFR in 2024 and 2025 — two years away from the Thomas and Mack stage he had competed on six straight times before. Most cowboys would have questioned everything. Chase Brooks took those two years and did something harder than climbing back on a bronc. He reevaluated. He reconnected with his faith. He stopped trying to control what was never his to control in the first place.
Then in 2026 he came back. Won the Brad Gjermundson Extreme Broncs in October 2025. Second at the Boot Barn Texas Circuit Finals. Average win at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. Win at Rodeo Corpus Christi. Third in the world standings by the summer of 2026 — back in the middle of the most competitive saddle bronc field professional rodeo had seen in years — chasing a seventh NFR qualification and his first World Championship.

He said it with the peace of a man who had finally found what he was looking for — "I tried to control everything for years. The way this year is going I finally gave it up and He is in control. I trust what He is doing and it helps. I am enjoying the ride."

Forty wins. Six consecutive NFR qualifications. A faith that steadied him when the road got hard. A Montana cowboy from Browning who gave up control and found his best riding on the other side of surrender.
