River set to raise, fish on!

The Wabash River has carried a lot of history, but some of the most beautiful pieces of that story were built by hand—one board at a time. Wooden boats crafted along this river weren’t just tools; they were a way of life. Every rib, plank, and curve was shaped with purpose, built to handle the Wabash’s sandbars, bends, and moods.
Today, seeing one glide across the water feels like stepping back into a time when craftsmanship mattered and the river was the highway of our communities. Here’s to the builders, the boatmen, and the traditions that still live on.

🌊 The Wabash River: One of a Kind 🌿

If you’ve spent any time along the Wabash, you know it’s more than just a river — it’s a living piece of our region’s history and identity. A few things that make it truly unique:

- It’s one of the largest free‑flowing rivers east of the Mississippi, running more than 400 miles without a dam.
- It stretches over 500 miles from Ohio to its meeting with the Ohio River, shaping the landscape of Indiana and Illinois along the way.
- It drains two‑thirds of Indiana’s counties, earning its place as the state’s official river and even inspiring Indiana’s state song.
- Its valley was carved long before glaciers came through, giving the river a character and “mood” all its own — from calm stretches to wild, winding bends.

Whether you fish it, boat it, study it, or just enjoy the view, the Wabash is a treasure worth celebrating. Proud to have this river running through our backyard here in southeastern Illinois.
