What a Mother’s Day classic it was on Saturday, May 9th. Bombs for Moms champs!
In pool play, GBC rolled from the start, pushing past the Bluegrass Clippers 19-2 and the Boyd County Cubs 16-2 to secure the No. 1 seed in Pool A. In the semifinals, GBC blanked the Clippers, cruising to a 10-0 victory to punch their ticket to the championship game against East KY Revolution — their toughest challenge yet.
Through the first three games, GBC’s offense was unstoppable, scoring 45 runs and crushing 15 home runs. Revolution was just as dangerous, scoring 25 runs with eight home runs of their own. But when the title game arrived, the bats quieted and the showdown became a battle of elite pitching, defense, and pure determination.
Only six total hits were recorded in the championship game — four for GBC and two for Revolution — as the teams battled through three intense hours and eight innings of baseball. In the end, GBC prevailed in dramatic fashion, 5-4.
Waylon T delivered a championship performance on the mound, striking out 11 batters while leading GBC to victory. He allowed just two hits and three runs across six innings while battling through six walks.
Revolution struck first in the 2nd inning when an error brought home a run to make it 1-0.
After spectacular defensive plays by Corbyn M in center field and Roman J at second base robbed Revolution of key hits in the fourth inning to keep momentum from shifting, GBC finally broke through offensively in the fifth. C**t V launched a dramatic two-run homer to center field, giving GBC a 2-1 lead!
Revolution answered in the bottom half of the inning, with 2 outs a miscue tied the game at 2-2. The drama only intensified from there.
In the sixth inning, Bray H drew a walk that scored Roman J to put GBC back in front, 3-2. But once again, Revolution answered in the bottom half to tie the game at three.
Then, a quiet 7th from both teams working out of jams with clutch defense..
Then, the decisive clutch offensive moment in extra innings In the top of the eighth inning, Waylon T delivered a back breaking line drive single to the fence that drove in two runs and gave GBC a 5-3 advantage — though the game still felt far from over, even though it was now past midnight.
Revolution threatened one final time in the bottom of the eighth. After cutting the lead to 5-4 and loading the bases, the pressure was at its peak. That’s when Knox S came through in the biggest moment of the game, inducing back-to-back pop-ups with a devastating curveball that Revolution hitters simply could not stay back on, sealing an unforgettable 5-4 championship victory for GBC.
For Revolution, Zander F was outstanding on the mound, pitching six innings while allowing three runs on three hits, striking out 12 and walking six. Easton C and Knox S both delivered clutch relief appearances for GBC when it mattered most.
A championship game for the ages — and one these boys and MOMS will never forget. Happy Mothers Day!!
