The biggest threat to youth sports isn't losing…
It's adults who forget what youth sports are supposed to be.
Some parents & coaches get so focused on winning that they lose sight of the entire purpose.
Every game becomes high pressure.
Every mistake becomes a problem.
Every loss becomes a disappointment instead of a lesson.
But youth sports were NEVER supposed to be about creating champions in elementary school.
They're supposed to be about building confidence, learning foundational skills, developing teamwork, practicing resilience, making friends, and falling in love with a game.
The scoreboard should be secondary.
Because the reality is that very few kids will go on to play at elite levels. But every single kid will carry the memories of how adults treated them while they played.
Did they feel encouraged?
Did they feel supported?
Did they feel safe making mistakes?
Or did they feel like their worth depended on their performance?
9 times out of 10 kids don't quit sports because they're incapable.
They quit because the fun disappears.
They quit because the pressure becomes heavier than the joy.
They quit because adults turn a game into a chore.
If your child comes home loving the sport more than they did yesterday, that's a win.
If they're learning, growing, trying, failing, and getting back up again, that's a win.
If they're building confidence and character, that's a win.
Years from now, what they’ll remember most is whether sports felt like a place where they could grow or a place where adults made them feel like they were never enough.
& people wonder why youth sports clubs participation stats are declining?
Because not enough people are protecting the joy…
& a love of the game is what keeps kids playing
