I’ve had the privilege of coaching Guss since he was about 5 years old.

He’s always been a little stubborn, always been incredibly strong, but what’s stood out most over the years is how hard he works. He keeps showing up, keeps pushing, and keeps finding ways to get better.

Today, all of that came together.

Gus is a 2011 MYWAY State Champion at 122 lbs as an 8th grader—and he did it in dominant fashion.

I couldn’t be more proud of you. Watching you grow not just as a wrestler, but as a young man, has meant a lot to me. You’ve earned this, every bit of it.

Love you like one of my own. This is just the beginning.

Tournament Results | Grass Lake youth Wrestling today at Northwest

Big performances from two of our guys this weekend.

🥇 Jonathan Meyers (8th grade) dominated a tough 2012–2011 Open | 114 lb bracket and earned 1st place the hard way. Relentless effort all day.

🥉 Hudson Kellenberger, (1st grade) a newer wrestler who jumped in late this season, showed pure grit in the 2021–2019 Open | 55 lb division, battling experienced competition for a well-earned 3rd place.

Memphis Hall (7th grader) – 4th place, 2012–2011 Open, 90–100 lb
Gus Latshaw (8th grader) – 3rd place, 2012–2011 Open, 122–130 lb
Henry Kromrei (7th grader) – 2nd place, 2012–2011 Open, 155–170 lb

Proud of the fight, the growth, and the toughness.
Grass Lake keeps getting better.

WARRIOR FAMILY — WE NEED YOU!

This Saturday, Grass Lake Varsity Wrestling is hosting a HOME Varsity Tournament with ~16 teams in the building. It’s a big day for our program and an awesome chance for our young wrestlers to see what they’re working toward.

We’re looking for help from our youth wrestlers and families in two ways:

🔧 Friday Night Setup – 6:30 PM
• Helping set up mats, chairs, and tables
• A great way to support the varsity team and be part of the event behind the scenes

📝 Saturday Help
• Table workers and tappers
• Easy to learn and a front-row seat to high-level wrestling

This is a great opportunity for our youth wrestlers to:
✔️ Be around the varsity team
✔️ Learn the flow of a tournament
✔️ Start seeing themselves on that mat one day

If you can help Friday night, Saturday, or both, please comment below or send us a message.

Once a Warrior, always a Warrior.
Let’s show up for our varsity team 💪🔥

Huge THANK YOU to all the wrestlers and parents who made the trip out to Brooklyn today in the middle of a snowstorm for our final Cascades Wrestling tournament of the season.

The weather wasn’t easy, but the toughness you all showed is exactly what this sport is about. Proud of every wrestler who competed today and grateful for every family who showed up. That’s how seasons are finished — together.

Safe travels home, and thank you for an awesome Cascades season!

As we wrap up this weekend, the Grass Lake Youth Wrestling season is coming to an end.

We kicked things off at the end of October, and tomorrow marks our final tournament of the Cascades season. Over the past few months, this group competed in 11 tournaments, put in countless hours of practice, and showed tremendous growth on and off the mat.

This was a young group of Grass Lake wrestlers, and their development has been something to be proud of. From learning how to step on the mat with confidence, to handling wins, losses, and tough moments the right way—every athlete grew this season. Most importantly, they worked hard, supported their teammates, and had fun doing it.

After Sunday’s tournament, we’ll officially wind down the season and will not be having any more practices this year. I want to offer a huge thank you to our wrestlers, parents, coaches, and volunteers for representing Grass Lake with pride all year long.

We’re proud of this group and can’t wait to get back out there next season.

Today reminded me why youth wrestling matters so much.

One of our little guys was really scared before his last match, in tears. The noise, the crowd, the chaos of a tournament can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re that little. We talked it through, took a breath together, and he found the courage to walk back out there and simply shake hands.

That might not show up on a bracket or a scoreboard, but it was a huge win.

It takes real bravery to step onto the mat, to face fear in front of everyone, and to try anyway. Whether our kids wrestled hard, won, lost, or just showed up when it was scary—I couldn’t be more proud.

Courage comes in many forms. Today, I saw it up close.
Great day of wrestling Warriors.
