The number 1 ranked 800-meter runner in the world, the Gazelles own Cooper Lutkenhaus, and his brother, Gazelles coach, and University of Tulsa 800-meter standout Andrew Lutkenhaus, were at our practice last night to chat, take pictures, and sign autographs. Cooper discussed the speed-based training he utilizes is the same we teach every day to young Gazelles athletes.

Coaches Corner: Coach Moody

Meet Coach Moody—Head Coach of the Gazelles and proud dad to two of our very own college coaches! A lifelong athlete and leader, sports have been in his DNA from the beginning. From football, soccer, and baseball to track, his athletic journey led him to play college football—and now fuels his passion for shaping future generations on and off the field.

With over 20 years of coaching experience, Coach Moody has helped 36 (and counting) athletes earn Division 1 scholarships. But he’s more than just a coach—he’s a relentless encourager on the sidelines, always pushing our kids to be their best.

He loves developing athletes almost as much as he loves a good, long conversation that starts with, “real quick…” You’ll always walk away from a chat with Coach Moody feeling like you just attended a TED Talk—learning something new and didn’t even have to buy a ticket!

Coaches Corner: Coach Elijah

This is Coach Elijah’s third year coaching with the Gazelles, but his journey started as a junior in high school running with the team. A dedicated leader and longtime Gazelles athlete-turned-coach! His passion for summer track has never faded!

High School Events: 200m, 400m, 4x400, 800m
Achievements:
• 2023 Men’s Team State Champion & Team Captain
• State Finalist in the TAPPS 4A 400m and 4x400m Relay

You’ll find Coach Elijah leading the core and plyometrics station or cheering on athletes from the sidelines with contagious energy and enthusiasm.

We’re so thankful for the joy and leadership he brings to the program!

Coach Corner: Coach Jacob — or as most know him, Moody!

We’re excited to have Coach Moody returning for his 3rd year with Gazelles! Moody started running with Gazelles when he was young and now brings that same passion and energy to our younger athletes.

Currently playing football and baseball at Hendrix College, Moody uses the techniques he learned in Gazelles across all sports. After college, he plans to continue his journey as a teacher and coach — and we know he’ll be great at both!

You’ll find him leading our younger groups, coaching at meets, and cheering loud from the sidelines.

Fun Fact: Moody still holds the Pike Middle School discus record!

Coaches Corner: Coach Scoggins

Meet Coach Greg — the patriarch of the Gazelles and affectionately known as “SuperG” by many!

Coach Scoggins has been involved in track and field since age 8 and even competed in the 1976 AAU Junior Olympics in Lawrence, Kansas. He competed in multiple events including high jump, long jump, hurdles, sprints, relays, and shot put. While earning his degree in Engineering Management at the University of Oklahoma, he worked as a high school track official, laying the groundwork for a lifelong coaching journey.

A USATF Level 1 Certified Coach and Official since 1999, Coach Greg has led the track program at Colleyville Covenant Christian Academy for over two decades. Under his guidance, 36 Gazelles have earned college track scholarships. He also runs elite speed and hurdle training clinics, helping athletes maximize their performance.

Beyond the track, Coach Scoggins has coached football, basketball, baseball, and soccer in the Colleyville and Grapevine youth leagues — dedicating countless hours to developing young athletes across multiple sports.

SuperG’s impact reaches far beyond medals and records — he’s a mentor, motivator, and cornerstone of the Gazelles family!

Coaches Corner: Coach Leisa

This is her 9th year coaching the Gazelles. A former standout at Oklahoma Christian University, Coach Leisa competed in the 400m, 800m, and relays—and graduated holding seven school records! She’s passionate about track and dedicated to developing the next generation of athletes. Here’s to another exciting season ahead!

Coaches Corner: Coach Kamdyn

We’re thrilled to welcome back Coach Kamdyn for her 5th year of coaching the Gazelles! Coach Kamdyn began competing with the Gazelles at a young age and has been passionate about track ever since.

She’s currently finishing her senior year at Missouri State and will graduate this Friday—congratulations, Coach Kamdyn! Right after graduation, she’ll be competing in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, representing Missouri State in the heptathlon, an event she has competed in throughout all four years of college.

Most recently, she won the Bearcat Invitational and is currently ranked 3rd in the MVC. At practice, you’ll find her coaching our jumpers and leading workouts. She’s excited to see all our returning athletes and kick off another great season!
