Obituary:
Jon Edward Simmons, 70, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away suddenly on November 15, 2024, in the front pasture of the land he cherished and worked his entire life.

Born on February 18, 1954, in Idaho Falls to parents Mildred and Golden Simmons, Jon's roots run deep in Idaho's soil. He dedicated himself to farming in Rigby and took immense pride in his land and community. He was a graduate of Ririe High School and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. As a farmer and one of the first truckers to pass the scale at Budweiser, Jon exemplified hard work and dedication throughout his life.

Jon's journey in love saw him with several partners along the way. He shared chapters of his life with Cristi, Nancy, and Belinda before finding his true soulmate, Barbara Jo, in 2005. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter.

Jon leaves behind a large and beloved family, including his children Panacea, Ashley, Lee, Miles, Casey, Travis, Till, Nova, Kenny, Brandy, and Billy. He was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many who’s adopted Jon along the way.

He was a proud member of the Afton, Ogden, Rexburg and Rigby Chariot Clubs and was well-known for his love of chariot racing—a passion he pursued for 43 years, bringing home many winning buckles and a passion he took to Costa Rica. Jon also found excitement in drift boating, cliff jumping, and restoring classic cars.

He is survived by his sisters Anna Jean and Jeanette, and his brother Rod. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Marlene, Rhonda, and brother Laval.

A celebration of Jon’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the County Building at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Rigby, Idaho. There will be no viewing or interment, as Jon will be cremated, as per his wishes. This is intended to be a true celebration of Jon’s life—BYOB and feel free to bring a finger food dish if you wish.

Jon's unwavering spirit, passion for life, and love for his family and community will be forever missed. Jon’s passing has left a huge hole in many hearts, remember to hug your loved ones and tell them you love them.

Another one of our friendly faces at the chariot races has past, Scott Donaldson.

Scott was everywhere at the races. He an Vivian helped in all areas. Scott loved being involved and helped everyone that he could, from helping with concessions to helping with programs, the track and anything at the barn anyone needed help with. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed, especially that smiling face and kind heart.

We lost another amazing long time Charioteer, Lyle "Bud" Critchlow. He is now with his sweetheart Martha who recently passed as well, who was another faithful charioteer. They are both going to be missed greatly.

Lyle and Martha raised a wonderful family who all are in our thoughts and prayers. They all are part of our Chariot Racing family as well. Proud parents of one daughter and eight boys.

Lyle Norman “Bud” Critchlow passed away on October 31, 2021. He was born on May 19, 1928 in Ogden.

Lyle, "Bud", was a horseman his whole life. He enjoyed raising, riding, and racing horses. He was involved in both adult and youth riding clubs in Tooele and Grantsville for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed chariot racing with his sons, extended family, and friends. He was an excellent mechanic who used his skills as he worked hard to provide for his family. His home was always open, and those who came were treated like family.

A viewing will be held on the evening of Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 6 to 8 at the Grantsville West Stake Center, 115 East Cherry Street. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11:00 at the same location, with a viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:30. Burial will be in the Grantsville City Cemetery.

You will be greatly missed by all!!!

We lost a Cowboy and good friend on 12/19/2020, Mr. Tommy Taylor. Tommy was always at Dolly's every Monday morning for coffee and conversation. Tommy was a Combat Veteran, serving as a U.S. Navy SeaBee in Vietnam. He would do anything for anyone in need. He spent many hours at the Eagles Lodge helping others. We shared many common interests, including guns & shooting, Corvettes, and motorcycles. He will most definitely be missed. Tommy, keep driving that Corvette in the sky with the pedal to the metal! Rest in Peace. Until we meet again. Thanks Chuck Carver.
