A customer recently contacted me about problems getting sufficient resistance from a trainer. He is using a trike equipped with “AUTOMATiQ” version of the Enviolo hub.
This hub uses some pretty powerful (and enviable) electromechanical technology to change it's ratio (in other words... shift gears) depending on load. So, if you're climbing it knows the load is higher so it automatically shifts to a lower "gear". Opposite is true with less load.
This is a wonderful feature that makes shifting thoughtless and automatic.
However, it fights with a stationary trainer because you can't change "gears", or ratio, manually to adjust the resistance you might be seeking for a variable workout. You're pretty much hostage to how the hub is set up.
To be honest, all I know about this hub is the information available on the manufacturer's website. I don't have one, and have never used one.
I am currently working with this customer to see if changing the app settings is helpful. I have contacted the company about how a customer can use the hub successfully on a trainer to get a variable workout load, but have not heard back yet.
If any of you have faced this same dilemma, let me know by posting what you know, what you've tried, your successes and failures. We WILL figure this out!
Thank you!!
