Today was day 6 of the SMBC Windsteppers at the AAU Junior Olympics!

We had Adayah competing in the 17-18 year old young women’s high jump. She places 19th/48 with an ending height of 1.55m/5-01

We also had the 15-16 boys, Trace Buckman, Cynsere Blackwell, Thomas Buckman, and Mason Godoy competing in the 4x400m relay. They placed 13th/47 teams with a time of 3:27.81 (pr).

We are proud of all the hard work the kids have put in this week. We celebrated with a team dinner this evening!

Our last family has arrived safely in Iowa. Jurni Davis will compete tomorrow in the 10 year old girls long jump at 1pm. The 15-16 boys will compete in the 4x100m relay at 12:45pm.

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting us this season and during this nationals trip.

Day 5 update

It’s Wednesday, August 5, 2026 and day 5 for the SMBC Windsteppers at the AAU Jr. Olympics.

There was a looooong weather delay today. But eventually we had Mason Godoy competing in the 15-16 year old boys triple jump. He finished placed 21/65 with a best jump of 12.66m. Abielah Vertreese competed in the 13 year old girls high jump and finished 25/55 with a height of 1.35m.

Tomorrow we will have Adayah Vertreese competing in the 17-18 year old young women’s high jump at 9am and the 15-16 boys competing in the 4x400m relay at 1pm.

Day 4 update

It’s Tuesday, August 4, 2026 and day 4 for the SMBC Windsteppers at the AAU Jr. Olympics.

After a slight weather delay today, we had Jamison Forbush competing in the 13 year old boys javelin. He finished 9th out of 62 athletes with a best throw of 36.55m.

Tomorrow we will have Mason Godoy competing in the 15-16 year old boys triple jump at 8am. He will be in flight 3. We also have Abielah Vertreese competing in the 13 year old girls high jump at 3pm. She will be in flight 2.

Day 3 update

It’s Monday, August 3, 2026 and day 3 for the SMBC Windsteppers at the AAU Jr. Olympics.

No one competed today. The athletes were able to get out and explore Des Moines and relax at the hotel today before practice this evening.

Tomorrow we are back at the track! Jamison Forbush will compete in the 13 year old boys javelin competition at 1pm.

Jamison has medaled many times at the Jr. Olympics in turbo javelin the past. This is his first year throwing the actual javelin. He’s done well at local and regional meets and has been training very hard this year.
