Grand River Sailing Club - Ohio

Grand River Sailing Club - Ohio Sailing for leisure and sport. GRSC is located in Grand River, Ohio about 35 miles east of Cleveland in Lake County.

GRSC has approximately 50 members from the myriad of dockage and clubs along the Grand River and nearby marinas and yacht clubs. Since its incorporation in 1981, the club has organized sailboat racing and cruising events. Races are held on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Yesterday’s Markko Cup Race took place on a beautiful day, with much more wind than forecasted. It also had one of the most exciting finishes ever, with the lead boats all converging near the finish and switching positions through extremely shifty conditions. Thanks to Markko Vineyards for their sponsorship, and thanks and congratulations to all the participants.

The historic Markko Cup Race (historically associated with the Rowley Cup and Society Cup) is an annual 28-nautical mile sailboat pursuit race held on Lake Erie in Northeast Ohio. Organized GRSC and AYC, the 2026 race is scheduled for this Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The pursuit race starts in the waters off of Mentor Harbor (Lake County) and finishes at the Ashtabula Harbor (Ashtabula County).

Participating sailors compete across several divisions—including Spinnaker, Jib and Main, and Cruising Canvas classes—with top performers vying for the historic, perpetual Rowley Cup Trophy

The event serves as a counter for the Nor'East Ohio Sailing Alliance (NEOSA) Traveling Series.

Proceeds from the registration and event support the Ashtabula Yacht Club and YMCA youth sailing and educational boating programs.
