I hadn’t planned to share this. It’s the kind of stuff that we cry about when we are alone, but you don’t tell people about it. Especially not publicly.
There have been two times that Lunar Cycle has literally brought me to my knees in tears. The first time was when, after being open for 7 weeks, we loaded up all the brand new equipment and rented out bikes when the pandemic closed us. The second time was different.
19 months ago the owner of our building sold the building to a wealthy and accomplished California real estate investor. He immediately tried to evict Lunar Cycle with plans to redevelop the first floor.
We have been locked in litigation for the last 18 months. The litigation has expensive, stressful, and scary.
It is bet-the-company litigation. If we lose and are forced out of the building, Lunar Cycle will close forever.
The second time that Lunar Cycle literally brought me to my knees in tears was when I received a text message from a new neighbor upstairs. It was late. I was worn to the bone with stress. Then she sent a message in support of Lunar that she probably didn’t think was a huge deal. But it was. It was a huge, huge, huge deal. I fell to the floor and cried like a baby with joy and relief.
Our team wants a positive relationship with our landlord. There is no ill-will. None. Just learning. Just growing. We wish him and his team success. We believe that Lunar Cycle can be part of that success. Maybe he just needs to see how.
Tomorrow will be the first time I will have the chance to meet our landlord in person. We will meet to see if we can work together and find a resolution.
I would like to share with him why Lunar matters to YOU. And if it doesn’t matter to him, I promise you that it will matter to me.

Get ready for lift-off! Your initial experience at LUNAR is designed to be welcoming and simple. Follow these prep tips to optimize your first ride:
Ensure you’ve eaten a nutritious light snack, preferably something with a little protein and complex carbohydrates.
Pack a water bottle and towel. Water is available at studio for $3 and sweat towels are available for $2 (rent) or $9 (purchase). Michigan sales tax applies.
Parking alongside and behind the two-story brick townhouses is free (spaces #5-35)! The curb cut is just beyond the private lot which is directly behind building 601. The spaces on Union in front of the townhouses are free and first come, first served. Michigan Street parking is free after 5 PM, too!
Arrive 20 minutes prior to class time to check-in, stow your items in a cubby, and change into cycling shoes (rentals are $3+tax).
Select and set up your bike with the trainer’s assistance; we’ll help you clip in, too, for a stress-free first-time experience. To release your shoes once clipped in, pivot your foot outward.
Let the instructor know of any past injuries or issues so modifications can be suggested.
