By Kari Stuart, Stuart Coaching (Hurt the Dirt sponsor) A training plan for trails? Isn’t it about getting lost in beauty of the woods and time with friends? Heck yes is! We want you to have that trail joy, but also a little structure to minimize injury risk. The plans below that we’ve developed...

THIS!⬇️Top 5 with these top notch coaches - what a feeling! 🧡 Thank you to the voters, to Stellafly for this awesome community-building initiative, and to my sweet friends for the congratulations texts. 👊

When a year comes to a close, I always reflect on my athletes and our work together. It brings me all the warm-fuzzy feels, and now this on top of it! I had drafted a social post last week, but {honesty coming} there's this fun feature of ADHD - we spend hours creating things but never post them because they're just not perfect enough. Today, I feel the universe telling me - "just say it!" So, THANKS, THANKS, THANKS from the bottom of my heart!

💙 Being with my girls at the fundraiser reminded me why this work matters so deeply. We heard from brave speakers who used running as a way to heal, grow, and overcome their mental health challenges. 🌍✨
Still I Run started locally and is now making an impact around the world. 🙌 Proud to be a supporter, and loved that my girls witnessed people talking honestly about mental health and the importance of a community. 🫶🏼 Celebrating more miles, more conversations, and more hope. 🏃‍♀️💪💙

A unique kind of courage and determination is required to take on IRONMAN training. Now imagine doing it at 17—while finishing high school and working 25+ hours a week to save for college. The discipline to wake up the morning after senior prom to train—after being crowned Prom King, no less—is remarkable.

Charlie embraced every moment wholeheartedly, despite never having done a triathlon and not even knowing how to swim at the start! Once he figured it out, he casually planned a 5K swim across Little Traverse Bay in 60° water with his family kayaking alongside. He kept me laughing (and a little terrified!) with his “Hey Coach Kari, check this out” texts—ski and bike tricks, ice climbing adventures, and even a video of him doing wheelies up the mountainside during IRONMAN Lake Placid. 😱

Guiding Charlie through his first IRONMAN at such a pivotal time in life felt like a coaching sweet spot—where my love for the sport meets my instinct to support, encourage, and celebrate every milestone. Watching a young athlete take on a huge goal with curiosity, trust, and joy has been one of my favorite coaching experiences.

I am grateful to work with Charlie this season... and I am excited for next season as we tackle his next set of BIG goals! For now, wishing him all the best in his first semester at the University of Vermont! Check out his IRONMAN Lake Placid race report!

At just 18, Charlie conquered his first Ironman Lake Placid in 10:44. Read his race report with highlights from the swim, bike, and marathon finish.

🔥Scorching heat. Relentless head and cross winds. Race plans flipped upside down. But these amazing athletes adjusted, they showed their grit and crossed the finish line with a smile!
When you embrace the day you’re given, and remember that the only thing truly in your control is your attitude, even the hardest challenges become magic! 🙌. 📷 awesome pics by

What if signing up for a run could actually boost your mental health?

Running just 30 minutes can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety—sometimes even more effectively than medication in mild to moderate cases.
People who set a movement goal and sign up for an event are 42% more likely to stick to their fitness or self-care routine (American Psychological Association).

This October, do something for you. Run 3.1 miles on World Mental Health Day (anytime between October 10-12th). Not only will you be part of something bigger, but most importantly, you’ll be showing up for yourself.

I recently stumbled on something I wrote in anticipation of my first marathon—Bayshore 2014. Reading it brought a flood of emotions, along with feelings similar to what I'm experiencing now as I train for my first Ironman. It's been a long time since I've personally had those 'first race' feels, but I see them in my athletes every year as they tackle new, big goals. It's pure magic. Reason #998 why I love my job.

Race day is huge, but often the most memorable part is the people—training partners and supporters—the lessons learned, and the growth and determination you weren't sure you had. I recently heard someone say that to live a fulfilling life, we must have people, purpose, and pursuits. Racing gives us all that and so much more.

With several of my athletes tackling their first marathon this year, it felt like the right moment to finally share this little gem. Here's my mile-by-mile tribute to the things that mattered most:

After a year of injury, recovery, and intense training, Kari Stuart shares the deeply personal motivations behind each mile of her first marathon. An emotional and inspiring read for runners and dreamers alike.
