The literal only time I fit into the BMI was when I was starving. They’ve actually done studies showing that black woman can have the same health as white woman at higher weights. Likely due to the increased muscle mass.

Research is finally catching up. Unfortunately, even though the mathematician stated that the BMI was never intended to be a health metric, that clearly didn’t happen and insurance companies benefited from it greatly.

Hopefully soon, more holistic health metrics along with health behaviors, eating patterns, stress, environment, etc. will be considered to get a full picture of someone’s health. It’s much more complex than height and weight.

You cannot get everything you need from weight lifting, just like you cannot get everything you need from Pilates or cardio. That’s like saying you can just eat meat or just eat fruit. Our health is most optimal when we have all the necessary nutrients and modes of training done in a balanced way.

All the Pilates instructors I know who I went through training with - they run, dance, lift weights, row, and do all sorts of forms of movement. Pilates isn’t intended to be a one and done - no form of movement is.

If you’re looking for well balanced programming where you’ll get Barre, strength, and Pilates workouts - comment “flow” below!

Whoops… who said that 😅

And yes I’m aware this is a generalization it’s never ALL or NOTHING. But for all intents and purposes of this message - you get the point.

Would be beautiful to see the men in this space helping women become strong, and celebrating the very thing that brought them into this world and provides life for their own families. The weight gain, stretch marks, cellulite, it’s a part of life. Not something to bounce back from day 1 postpartum.

1. Your body is meant to change. You literally aren’t supposed to look like you’re 16 for the rest of your life. Your body wasn’t done developing then. Work to build a healthy lifestyle for each season of your life.

2. Exercise to be strong, not skinny. We aren’t all meant to be skinny and trying to force your body to be something it’s not is only going to lead to disappointment and long term weight gain. Your curves are beautiful, build muscle to support good bone density, fight insulin resistance, reduce your risk for chronic disease, and support a healthy lifestyle.

3. It’s not a dream body if it’s a nightmare to maintain

4. Focus on exercise that you actually enjoy so you’ll be more likely to stick with it. Sure insanity classes are total calorie burners but if you hate them, you’ll quit eventually.

5. Restriction fuels overconsumption. Instead, learn to fuel your body well - eat nourishing foods most of the time. But not all foods are supposed to be healthy, you can enjoy a piece of cake just because because food is meant to be enjoyed.
