We no longer maintain the Banadad ski trail or Lace lake trail. Tall pines trail probably not being tracked. The Banadad Trail Association will be maintaining and tracking the Banadad is winter season (2025). Bearskin resort will be taking care of the Lace Lake trail. Nothing tracked yet, but will be done when trails are packed and groomed. Thank you for your past business and friendship.

When I was 11 years old, my mom, dad, sister and I witnessed a total eclipse in Mpls. June 1954. I never forgot it. Dad drove us to a city lake and we watched. Do not remember too much. Not sure what kind of eye wear we had. There were a lot of people watching too.
I have been reading about the fantastic stories from today. After the pandemic and our nation feeling so lonely, this was really something to behold. People cheering and clapping and smiling, their mouths open. Love it.
We needed this.

THE LATEST DIRT FROM THE YURT

Last year, due to our health, we sold the yurts along the Banadad to the Banadad Trail Association. The Association chose not to operate the yurts. We were hopeful that the Association would offer yurt Lodging as a business opportunity to someone. One yurt was sold to a private party. The yurt located midway on the Banadad remains in place, closed to skiers and unused.

We are hopeful that someday the mid trail yurt will be taken over by someone as overnight lodging for those skiing the entire Banadad.

The Banadad is a 27km public ski trail in northern Minnesota. People come from around the state and around the country to experience the magic of the Boundary Waters wilderness in winter. We're a volunteer organization working year-round to keep the trail open and groome...

Ted and I have some very sad news for you.
Curry Thompson, the Banadad Trail Association ski trail groomer died in a tragic fire along with his dog Ginny.
Curry was getting ready to go out again on the ski trails the last snowfall right after the 2022 Christmas holiday. Curry loved tracking and grooming the Banadad ski trails and greeting guests. A terrible tragedy for his five children and two step children, sister, brother and friends and family.

The Banadad Trail Association has created a fundraiser to assist his family with any funeral costs and general care for his children. We hope that you will consider giving to help support his family. Here is the link that goes to the GoFund Me page along with more information about Curry, Ginny and his family. Thank you. https://gofund.me/ea1b07fa

Sincerely, Barbara and Ted

It is cold today. However, we have yurts guests checking in today, Thursday, and tomorrow, Friday. SOOO, Curry tracked the Banadad to the Croft yurt, 12 miles and came back via the Moose trail. Came in almost frozen and wet. Took about an hour to warm up. Then had to go to the Tall pines yurt and heat it up and then bring gear and food containers out there. Tomorrow he will finish tracking to the west end and check in guests to the Croft yurt and Tall pines yurt. Wish we had more help for him. Curry is a trooper. Glad he is back.

California Couple Complete First Yurt to Yurt Fat Tire BikingTrip

Last week a couple from California completed Boundary Country Trekking’s first Yurt to Yurt fat tire bike trip. Starting at the Tall Pines Yurt the couple biked two out from the first yurt down to a frozen Poplar Lake. On the lake it was a slow four miles going due the soft snow covering the lake and their inexperience on the bikes. Arriving at the west end of the lake they peddled up to and out the moose trail another 5 miles to the Croft Yurt were they had dinner and spent another night. After breakfast it was a fairly fast six mile pedal out to where their car was waiting at the Poplar Lake Public Landing road.

According to the biker it was a great trip- the food and accommodation were outstanding. They also mentioned that since they were not experience fat tire bikers it took some time to get use to the bikes. The trip between the yurts went slow because of this but by the second day with a days experience under their belt the pair travelled out at good clip.
