You don’t have a dedicated yoga room at home? Neither do I!

This is my very glamorous home yoga studio—just a little space next to my bed. 😂

And honestly? That’s all you need. This is where I practice yoga and where I plan and write all of my classes.

Starting in October, I’m bringing Restorative Yoga to Zoom, so you can practice from the comfort of your own home. No driving, no special space, no fancy setup required.

For Restorative Yoga, you only need a space slightly larger than your yoga mat. Then grab a few pillows, blankets, or whatever you have around the house, and get ready to slow down, settle in, and truly rest.

You don’t need more space. You just need a little time for yourself.

I’m starting something new!

I’ve been wanting to offer live Zoom yoga classes for a long time, and I’m finally doing it. This October, I’m starting with a weekly 30-minute Restorative Yoga class.

I’m starting with this weekly Restorative Yoga class and, if there’s interest, I hope to add more live online classes in the future.

This class is for the stressed, depleted, physically tense, or active person who needs time and space to slow down, turn inward, and truly rest.

We’ll use very gentle movement, supported restorative poses, breathwork, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to help calm your nervous system, release tension, and give your body and mind a chance to recover and restore.

And the best part? You can do it all from the comfort of your own home. No driving. No rushing. Just 30 minutes to pause, breathe, and take care of yourself.

I’m putting together the first group now, and I’d love to have you join me.

Yoga doesn’t end when you roll up your mat.

The real practice often happens when you step off your mat.

It’s the breath you take before responding when you’re frustrated. The pause before saying something you might regret. The choice to be a little more compassionate when things are hard. The moment you notice your breath in the middle of a busy day.

That’s what it can look like to live your yoga practice.

You don’t have to be on a yoga mat to practice yoga.

Choose one quality from your practice, like patience, presence, or compassion, and notice how you can bring a little more of it into your day.

September’s theme at Grand Lake Yoga is Integrate.

Yoga can be so much more than the hour we spend on our mats. It can show up in the way we breathe through a stressful moment, respond instead of react, make decisions, care for ourselves, and move through our everyday lives.

Integration isn’t about adding more. It’s about noticing what your practice is already teaching you and letting those lessons become part of how you live.

What is something your yoga practice has taught you that you use in everyday life?

Tell me in the comments, or save this post as a reminder to notice your practice off the mat.

Would you talk to a friend the way you talk to yourself?

Many of us are quick to offer kindness and encouragement to the people around us.

But when we make a mistake, fall short, or have a difficult day, our inner voice can become much less gentle.

Self-compassion is not about making excuses or avoiding growth. It’s about meeting yourself with the same patience and understanding you would offer someone you care about.

On your mat, this might look like:
Choosing a modification instead of pushing
Resting when your body asks for it
Letting go of comparison

Off your mat, it might look like:
Speaking to yourself with more kindness
Giving yourself room to be human
Recognizing that growth takes time

The next time you notice self-criticism, pause and ask, “Would I say this to someone I love?"

If the answer is no, try offering yourself a different response.

You deserve the same kindness you give so freely to others.

You don't have to ignore a feeling to move through it.

Feelings come and go like waves.

Some are easy to sit with. Others feel uncomfortable, overwhelming, or inconvenient.

But what if we practiced noticing our emotions instead of immediately pushing them away?

Yoga teaches us to observe and notice:
Where emotions show up in your body
How your breath changes
What happens when you pause before you react

This doesn't mean we never feel frustrated, sad, or stressed. It means we create a little more space between what we feel and how we respond. Even one slow breath can turn things around.

Today, try asking yourself: "What am I feeling right now?"

Not to judge or fix it. Just to notice.

Awareness is where change begins. This week at Grand Lake Yoga we will soften and become more aware of all that we’re feeling and experiencing.

When was the last time you really listened to yourself?

Our bodies are constantly communicating with us.

The challenge is that when life gets busy we don't always slow down long enough to listen.

Yoga gives us the opportunity to practice paying attention and notice:
When your breath becomes shallow
When your body is asking for a little less effort
When something feels supportive versus forced
When you need rest instead of another thing on your to-do list

There is no prize for pushing through discomfort. The practice is learning to listen.

Off the mat, try taking a few quiet moments today. No phone. No distractions. Just a chance to check in.

Ask yourself:
"What do I need right now?"

Sometimes the answer is clearer than we expect when we give ourselves space to hear it.

What is something your body has been trying to tell you lately? Join us this week at Grand Lake Yoga to listen deeply.

Are you energized by summer, or completely exhausted by it?

Summer brings so much fiery energy. Longer days, more activities, more plans, more time outside.

But all fires need tending.

This week at Grand Lake yoga, we’re exploring what it means to cool the fire. Cooling the fire is about finding balance between doing and being.

It doesn't mean losing your motivation or slowing down completely. It means noticing when your body and mind need a little more care.

On your mat, this might look like:
Moving a little slower
Letting your breath guide your movement
Choosing grounding poses instead of pushing for more

Off your mat, it might look like:
Pausing before responding
Taking a quiet moment before moving to the next task
Giving yourself permission to rest

Try this today: Take three slow breaths and notice where you are holding tension.

Instead of trying to fix it, simply soften around it.

What helps you cool your own inner fire?

What if softness is actually a form of strength?

We live in a world that often celebrates pushing harder, doing more, and holding it all together.

But what if we gave ourselves permission to soften?

Softening doesn't mean giving up or shrinking away. It means creating a little more space to pause, listen, and respond with awareness instead of always pushing forward.

In yoga, we practice both strength and softness. We build strength so we can move through life with more stability, but we also learn when to release effort, slow down, and pay attention to what our body is telling us.

Sometimes softness looks like:
Taking a deeper breath before reacting
Letting go of tension you didn't realize you were carrying
Resting without feeling like you need to earn it
Setting a boundary that supports your well-being

This month at Grand Lake Yoga, we are exploring the theme Soften.
A reminder that strength doesn't always have to look like effort. Sometimes strength looks like kindness, patience, and giving yourself room to simply be.

Take a moment today to notice:
Where am I holding on a little too tightly?
What might it feel like to soften there?

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Share below, or take a quiet moment to reflect for yourself.

And if you’re in Grand Lake in August, I’d love to practice with you! Find class information and register at GrandLakeYoga.com

Joy in Movement

When was the last time you moved your body simply because it felt good?

Not to burn calories, or to check a box, or to get stronger. But just because you enjoyed it.

Somewhere along the way, many of us forget that movement can be fun. We get so focused on doing things the "right" way or measuring our progress that we lose sight of the simple joy of moving our bodies.

That's what we're exploring this week at Grand Lake Yoga.

On the mat, that might mean trying something new, letting your breath guide your movement, or simply noticing how good it feels to be present in your body. There doesn't have to be a goal beyond showing up and enjoying the experience.

Off the mat, joy can be found in the little things - a walk by the lake, dancing in your kitchen, laughing with a friend, or spending time outside in the beautiful mountains of Grand Lake, CO.

This week's invitation: Choose one activity this week simply because it brings you joy with no goal or checklist. Just the simple pleasure of doing something that makes you smile.

I'd love to hear from you! What's one way you love to move that has nothing to do with “exercise”?
