Fitness Reflections:
~my fitness has been all over the place! I haven’t felt I’ve been eating enough &!while I’m enjoying looking leaner, I am discouraged about some sciatic pain I have been experiencing which is hindering me from doing my favorite lifts like squats & deadlifts :/ i HATE injuries. any athlete can relate to the mental toll it takes on you when you aren’t physically able to perform the way you typically do. however, I’ve had a few nagging injuries over the course of my time as a former powerlifter, crossfitter, & in general strength training. the truth is—I am competitive with myself & with anything you do competitively, you run the risk of injury. it was the very last day of my program & I wanted to see how heavy I could hip thrusts a 5x5. I was determined to put 405 on the bar. & I got it! But on my very last rep, I recall disengaging my core which made my left hip shift. I went about the rest of the workout and the next day, I woke up with some pretty bad lower back/piriformis pain. :/ i kept going though. now that’s put me several months into navigating an unnecessary injury. what was once a minor issue, has now become something affecting my daily life. i should’ve paid closer attention & eased off my heavy lifts once I noticed the pain. Did I? No. Lol (every lifters bad habit…ego lifting😅) but now i am here. sitting with this universal lesson that applies to lifting AND to life:
what is hurt & not healed, will begin to bleed into other areas of life & only get worse.
take the time needed to notice when an injury forms (or heart ache occurs). don’t ignore it or “push through” it. it will bite you in the butt later on down the road (literally in my case LOL). take time to recover, treat the cause not the symptoms, & ease back into things. your body & mind will thank you for it later!!
