The Javelina Racing 2/1600 car was back in action this past weekend at the SADR Sandstorm 300 in Rocky Point, Mexico. It was a rough course with plenty of challenges, but the team came ready to compete, finishing 1st in Class 1300 Limited Sportsman and 3rd overall in Sportsman.

Race Report: Arizona Motorcycle Riders Association Round 1 - Laughlin, Nevada, 25 October 2014.
Result: 5th out 16 in class.

Well after a tough summer of training it was finally time to kick off the racing season. Wasn't sure if I was going to make it to the race as I had a shoulder injury 2 weeks prior to the race that sidelined me. Knowing that I would miss Round 2 I had to find a way to race and get some points so I could stay in contention for the series. I made the decision Thursday to give it a shot (so to speak) :). This was fast and grueling desert race with 25 mile loops and the temperature at start time was about 100 degrees. The start took us straight into a fast wash with big whoops and there was lots of crashing and drama that I was able to avoid. I actually led the class for the first 1/3 of the first loop and was riding pretty well. I had to be really conservative and protect the shoulder so I could not hold off the leaders. This course was very Javelina friendly and I was leveraging my desert experience and making lots of passes. I started having blister problems and my left hand was actually bleeding through the glove. I chose not to pit after the first lap and went straight out for another 25 miles. Halfway through the second lap I had a minor crash but enough to aggravate the shoulder , I battled through it and maintained my top 5 position. I was happy to see the leading pro pass me at the end of the second loop, which brought out the checkered flag and allowed me to avoid the third loop. In the end I earned 5th place points which will keep in contention. Now I need to heal up and get ready for round 3. Special thanks to all of our sponsors MotoCity Ktm Arctic Cat, Motorex USA, Kenda Tires USA

Kurt Caselli was an idol and role model for so many in our sport. He represented a style of riding and a brand of motorcycle that many of us are passionate about, and he did so with humility and class. He also represented his country and the off-road racers of the USA by being asked to join the KTM World Rally Team – an opportunity that many would consider the pinnacle of our sport. His loss is a tragedy. Many of us KTM fans wanted that 1x plate badly as we felt that our team and our brand represented the best of the sport – but not at this price. We hope his family can find some peace in the joy and pride that we felt watching him ride and win. Ride In Peace Kurt!

AMRA Round 2 - Globe, AZ 9 NOV 13: Round 2 brought us back to Globe which use to be a great venue. I haven't raced Globe in almost 3 years so I was looking forward to it, but the course is really blown out now and really wasn't all that fun to ride. I spent a lot of time between races dialing in the bike and learning from Round 1, and the bike was excellent. Special thanks to Bob Todd of Future Shoxs for all the help. I got a good start but the dust was so thick you could not see and so rocky it was difficult just to stay on the track. I took it easy on the first lap but my arms and hands were numb from the endless 10miles of rocks. I made a stupid mistake on the tire obstacle and went down. I got back up and picked up 3 places on the second lap. I was doing well on lap 3 until I got to this long up hill lose rock climb into the sun. I did not see the guys stuck in front of me and got tangled up with them which allowed at least 3 guys to pass me. I was in survival mode from that point, just trying to hold on to the bike. I finished 10th out of 16 - pretty disappointing but I still picked up some points in the series. The bike is really good now and I look forward to getting more seat time as I prepare for the next round. Thanks to MotoCity for all the support.

AMRA Round 1 - Tonalea, AZ -12 OCT 13: Well I guess you can say Javelina's hibernate during the summer because this one sure did. The AMRA race season came quick and caught me a bit flat footed. Going with a whole new bike setup without testing or riding was bit tough. The course was fast, lots of very soft sand, some twisty single track and some Moab style slick rock formations. Great course and a format that I would normally relish. Bottom line I grab 7th out of 14 in 40b. Not great but given that I have been out of racing and off the bike for nearly 6 months I can't complain. I got points and it's a long series and anything can happen. I had a great time and enjoyed the course, and it was great to get back into race mode again. I'm putting in the effort on and off the bike and expect much better results next month in Globe. Thanks to MotoCity for the support!
