Congrats to our Rapids girls for winning Playoff Game #1 on Tuesday !

Everyone did awesome, even after a full 2 week layoff from games.

We had to award Co-Players of the Game in this one, which we to Kylie and Quinn.

Quinn was a brick wall at catcher for the first 3 innings, and had 2 hits. One being a great blast to Left Field.

Kylie played a great game in the field as usual, and also had two hits, highlighted by a 3 run Home Run.

Congratulations to Kylie for earning the Player of the Game Award in our final regular season game.

As always, she was a defensive standout in this game, with 2 throw outs, 1 tag out and a pop fly caught. She also scored us a run on the offensive side.

Time for another game recap….Game #11 was a 9-1 win over the Lockport Lady Lions, everyone came to play that night, and the results were just what we needed. A win while also keeping our runs allowed low, which comes into play for playoff seeding tie-breakers.

Arden earned the player of the game that night, by pitching 3 scoreless innings, striking out 8. She was also responsible for the other out during her 3 innings at Pitcher, by catching a pop fly that was hit to her. Then on the offensive side had 2 hits, 3 RBI’s and scored a run herself. An outstanding performance all around !

Happy 12th Birthday to Lydia. One of our “Swiss Army Knife” players who is capable of playing 7 of the 9 positions. Lydia didn’t have the easiest of years off the field having to battle some health issues, but she climbed those mountains, and had her best year of Softball yet. Keep doing what you do !

The Rapids are back in Town, and it’s time to clear some more out of the backlog of our game recaps. We’ll have several more updates over the next week to get all caught up.

Game # 10 we came away with an 8-7 victory over the North Buffalo Wildcats, just minutes before the sky opened up it started down pouring. Great job to the girls for timing that one perfectly.

The Player of the Game Award went to Sarah, who added 2 more hits and 2 RBI’s to her growing collection and also added to her impressive number of games without a strikeout (which at that point was 10 games down with only 2 strikeouts on the entire year) !

Congratulations to Chloe for earning the Player of the Game in last Wednesday’s game vs Nitro.

She pitched 2 great innings striking out 5, and then added a hit and a run on the offensive side and avoided any strikeouts herself.

Time to start clearing the backlog of our League games we played this past week.

On Tuesday we played the (still as of this post) undefeated AnJo Saints, in a rain game. Overall we had a difficult time finding our groove in the rain and against a great Team at that, so it was a pretty rough night, but we had some bright spots.

The reason Grace is holding up 2 gift cards, is because we awarded the Tournament MVP’s after this game, in which Grace also earned the Player of he Game award. Grace had 2 hits, avoided any strikeouts and had a great day in the field as well, highlighted by an unassisted double play !

And now our Bracket Play recap from this past weekend’s Tournament. We kept our scores low enough in the Pool Play to secure a first-round bye in the Silver Bracket, won our Semi-Final game 19-5 in only 3 innings, and then played a tough 6 inning game lasting over 2 hours in the Silver Championship but coming up short.

We once again went with Co-MVP’s, as both players shined on both sides of the ball. The Co-MVP’s were Grace & Lydia.

Grace had 4 hits and scored 6 runs, with a .857 on base percentage. She also made several great plays at 1st Base, including multiple pop fly catches. Her movement making backups every time she needed to, really took a step forward during this Tournament, and stood out as well.

Lydia had 2 hits with an RBI, scored 3 runs, had a .714 on base percentage and no strikeouts on the day. She also had some great innings at Catcher, highlighted by breaking the barrier of throwing out a runner trying to steal 2nd Base (the first time ever in our Team’s 3 year history).

Tomorrow we’ll let you know why Grace is holding up 2 gift cards…

Time to recap our Tournament from this past weekend. There is a lot to cover, so we’ll do it over 2 days, to make sure everyone gets their day in the spotlight.

First of all, a shout outs to a Lyla K. (who was part of our original Team from 2 years ago) who joined us for Saturday & Sunday, which was not only a fun reunion, but she really helped us out too. It was so fun watching her get out of a “pickle” on the base paths twice, which is going to be one of the long lasting memories from that weekend.

Pool Play kicked off on Friday night with a great game against a familiar opponent (at least for those who were with us last year) in the Southline Shamrocks. Just like last year, it was a contest decided by 1 point, that went the distance. Everyone had their moments, and the performance in that game is what really set us up for a favorable Sunday schedule.

On Saturday we had 2 formidable opponents to face, both with several players who are already playing with School Teams (some even at the Varsity Level already).

We were originally going to award an Offensive & Defensive MVP for the 3 Pool Play games, but we had 2 players who made cases on both Offense and Defense, so we just went with Co-MVP’s instead:

Our Co-MVP’s were Chloe & Juliette.

Chloe pitched the whole game on Friday night, and did a fantastic job, striking out 7. On the offensive side, she hit a blast to deep Center Field, good for a triple which really kickstarted our best offensive inning.

Juliette, like she has been all year was a reliable hitter/get on base player for us, and only struck out once during those 3 games. Then in the game against our toughest Saturday opponent (who ended up securing the #1 seed at the Tournament), her number was called for the first time in a full month for catcher duties. She did a great job with that, which helped us keep that score precisely where we needed it.

What a weekend for our Rapids Team, at the Lancaster Tournament !

We played 5 great games, some against some familiar opponents, and others against some of the Top 12u Teams in Western NY.

We did well enough in our Pool Play games to secure the #2 Seed in the Silver Division, and ended up being the Silver Division Runner Ups in the end. We shared another great game with our friends in Clarence in the Championship Game, but fell a little short.

Everyone is making big strides with their development, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

Pool Play & Bracket MVP’s to be decided in the near future, and we’ll announce & reward them soon…

Game #7 was our best game yet. We won by 8 runs, and held our opponent to only 2 hits.

Once again, everyone makes the highlight list:

Grace had an RBI, and a put out at 1st Base.

Lydia was up to bat 4 times, and avoided any strikeouts. She hit ball 3 times but unfortunately the opponents fielding was on point. She also had a nice game behind the plate, allowing only 2 runs over 2 innings.

Kylie had a hit, then hit the ball into play two other times, but the fielding was there again. On the defensive side she threw out a baserunner on the one time the ball came her way.

Sarah had a hit, two walks, scored twice and once again avoided any strikeouts. Then on the final play of the game she threw out a runner at 1st Base from the 3rd Base position.

Juliette was on base all 3 of her plate appearances, with 2 being hits, and scored all 3 times as well.

Alesia had 3 hits in her three plate appearances, and scored all 3 times as well.

Chloe struck out 7 batters over 3 innings pitched, surrendering only 2 hits and 3 runs. On the offensive side she had a hit, avoided any strikeouts, was on base 2 of 3 plate appearances and scored a run.

Eva had two great at bats resulting in a hit, a walk and a run scored.

Arden struck out 3 batters over 2 innings pitched surrendering 2 runs and no hits. She also caught a pop fly and had an incredible stretch at 1st Base to get the last out of the game. On the offensive side, she got on base twice and scored both times.

And the player of the game was Quinn, who had a nice game behind the plate, allowing only 3 runs over 3 innings. She was involved in the play of the game, where we caught a base runner stealing home. She also hit a ball into play, and scored us a run.
