The crew and I get asked questions everyday that sometimes I have to think about before I can answer. I was asked in the past week what made Sea Flea Charters standout from the other charters. I started thinking about that last night and it isnt just one thing. It is a bunch of little things that have come from me fishing charters myself and listening to customers that have fished other charters.
Sea Flea Charters works to have the best equipment. Rods and reels are no more than 2 years old. Sponsors like Dreamweaver, Morgans Copper, Charlies Fishing Hole, Shimano, ice strong wire rods all keep us in the lastest and greatest equipment.
The boat is kept clean from the cabin to the head. We spend a lot of time everyday making sure you have a very very clean boat.
The crew is personable , fun, and we are there to have a good time with our crew. This is where the customers can help by reciprocating the fun. Sometimes the fishing isnt as good as what we would like but we are always giving a 100 percent. Let's make the most out of everyday!
I think this part is where we excel the most. I call it reading the room. We get to know our customer on the trip out. I work to figure out what they want. We try to figure out what they want out of the trip. The trip is about them so try to talk and do things that they will enjoy. Listen to there stories and dont try to change them to our stories or tell them about experiences and stories if we feel they want to hear them. I have learned more from communicating with customers than any other thing I have every done.
This is big and what I learned from my trips. I will tell them what to expect from the day and what our options are. The type of fish we can catch and where we can fish. We do what they want not what will bring back the most fish, not what is easiest for us, not what will save us the most fuel, not what will save us money by not using herring or bait that cost money. We are there for the customer. It is not a dock competition. One of the best driving factors is the quality of boats we have at our dock. We have 16 boats at our dock that can embarrass you so you better be on your game everyday!
We are not afraid of fishing in weather that is not ideal. There isnt much Lake Michigan can deal us that we cant handle. I will let you know if it isnt safe. We let you make the call if it is just uncomfortable. We are not gonna cancel a trip you have planned if it is safe and you can handle it. Some days the customers cancel at 4 ft waves. Other times we will fish in 5 to 7 ft waves. We work with the group to figure out was is best.
Lastly...we take care of your catch. You leave with nice filets and your fish are iced well and taken care of so you take home some nice filets.
