A New Lease on Life
Grand Coteau/Arnaudville-Faye Guidry is a faithful at Fit Girl in Grand Coteau. Her favorite class is the Senior Fit Class. Her goals when it comes to fitness are to stay healthy and fit.
Fit Girl Owner, Margaret DeMatteis, chose Faye to be featured in our January issue. Margaret stated, “Faye is just a special lady with the most generous heart. It's always a better day when Faye comes to class at Fit Girl - she walks in with a smile and a positive attitude and brightens up the room. She loves and appreciates life and radiates this message to anyone who meets her. We pray for Faye when it's time for medical tests or scans - and give thanks to God and breathe a little easier when all is clear."
In 2018, Faye was diagnosed with a very serious Stage 3 Cancer. After receiving 28 radiation treatments followed by chemotherapy, Faye had a heart attack. Faye said, “My widow maker was 100 percent blocked. I realized how much your health is worth in life. Health is more important than anything money can buy. Without your health, you have nothing. You never think this can happen to you until it does.”
Margaret said, “Faye is tough - was never victimized by her diagnosis - just a thing to get through so she could carry on. When she deemed the initial treatment options given as unacceptable, Faye searched for a doctor who could give her back the life she wanted to live. She drove herself to many appointments in New Orleans, and loves and praises the doctor who she claims saved her. This is what inspires me most about Faye Guidry - she did not stop until she got the right answer.”
Faye and her husband, Kevin, own Kevin Guidry’s Produce Market. Faye’s favorite foods are salads and produce from their produce market. Kevin and Faye enjoy spending time with their three children and seven grandchildren. On the weekends, they spend time in New Orleans with friends they have made over the years—the Guidrys call Arnaudville home.
Faye stated, “We love Acadiana. It is filled with the best people who are the friendliest. From our customers to the ladies that I work out with weekly, we see the good in the people that are our neighbors. My girls at Fit Girl are the most dedicated, inspiring women that I have ever met in life.”
In the last few years, Faye has had the opportunity to do life differently and put her health as a priority. Faye is a testament that it is never too late to start putting one's health as a priority.
