The Joanne Reid Women’s Biathlon Festival will be taking a break this year, but in its place we will be hosting a women’s mass start on March 14! This event is open to all ages and experience levels, and newcomers can participate using our new laser rifles with no need for safety certification! And yes, Joanne will be there!

And don’t worry, we plan to bring back the full festival next year!!

Still confused about the safety requirements for this year? If you still have an old red book, it is no longer valid to race with a .22 rifle this season. To update to the new USBA BRS standard, you will need to take an online class and then do an in person assessment with one of our certified assessors. These sessions are being offered at the times and locations shown below. Don’t delay, theres already snow in the high country!! Check out our website for details on how to sign up for a slot.

It’s hard to believe it has been almost 6 months since we wrapped up the second edition of the Joanne Reid Women’s Biathlon Festival at Snow Mountain Ranch!! For those who attended, you may remember seeing Cameron Kirkegaard working on a documentary to capture the story behind the festival. That documentary is now complete and ready to be shown to the world. After premiering at Pikes Peak Docufest, it will make its regional premiere with a question panel featuring Joanne, Joan, and Anna in Grand Junction on the evening of October 8th,

There are two ways you can get involved to help Cameron debut this great story:
Donate to help him secure the venue (The Avalon Theater in Grand Junction). You can donate via gofundme at the link in bio (where you can also find a link to see the trailer!
Attend the premiere! What could be better than a theater full of festival attendees reliving the experience and sharing it with new people! Call your friends, get your carpool together, and head to Grand Junction (don’t forget your mountain bike, Fruita should be in great shape at that time!!)

Cameron’s fundraising deadline is Sept 7, so donate early and donate often to help this great cause. If the goal isn’t met, all funds will be donated to The Army of Survivors, a charity that helps women affected by abuse in sports, as will any excesses.

How it started and how it’s going. . .

Six years ago today, during a late season training session, two women with two young girls stood off to the side of the range curiously watching our athletes train. One of our biathletes went over to talk to them and encouraged them to give biathlon a try the following season. Fast forward six years to today and those two young girls are now young women racing as a relay team in the Joanne Reid Women’s Biathlon Festival, while their mothers made up another team (we will not comment on who crossed the finish line first). It warms our hearts to see the impact biathlon has had on their lives!

We are excited to announce that registration for the 2025 Joanne Reid Women’s Biathlon Festival is now open!!  We have opened registration for the clinics, races, and social events all at the same time this year, and all will close at 5:00 PM on February 24th. See you at the range!

Congratulations to everyone who braved some tough conditions yesterday to race our mass start! High winds made for difficult shooting and challenging ski conditions, but we still saw some great racing! Plenty more to come on our calendar with our first sprint/pursuit weekend coming up January 11-12!

We are very excited to announce the return of the Joanne Reid Women’s Biathlon Festival for the 2024-2025 season! From March 13-16 CBC is proud to be hosting a women’s biathlon festival named for our most accomplished club member- NCAA champion, US National Champion, 2x Olympian, and World Cup racer Joanne Reid.

Over these four days, we will host a USBA safety certification (making it easy for new racers to jump in!), a day of clinics, and three days of racing for women and juniors (a sprint, a mass start, and a fun relay). We will have novice categories in every race, so newbies are welcomed and encouraged to join the fun.

Registration is expected to open January 17 for all events, with more details to come, but for now be sure to save the date for what is sure to be a fun, positive and supportive environment empowering women in our sport.

Congrats to all who completed our CBC Safety Certification Clinic yesterday! Huge thanks to our volunteers for running the course and special thanks to Drew for teaching.

We’re gonna file these under “things you don’t see everyday on a biathlon range”. Our awesome volunteers were hard at work over the weekend backfilling 18 TONS of dirt on the pier forms for our new sheds and then pouring concrete in all of them. Sheds coming soon!! Things are going to look a lot different this winter season!!
