We had another successful “Greatest Lil Match in Texas” today at Way-Out-West Shooting Center!!! We had a couple close calls today that could have gotten uglier than what they did! I pray for safety before each match and for 9 years now we’ve been without incident!!! Today continued that that streak but I hope after the couple to close for comfort things that happened today, we all reinforce that vigilance to always stay safe, make 110% your line of sight to the target is safe and that equipment is in a safe working manner before getting to the firing line or before firing that next shot! That being said and the fact nobody got injured I’ll continue on as usual, But Did You Die??? Almost from heat exhaustion but that’s about it!!!
Conditions were tricky today and proved difficult for some and not so rough for others! It’s was refreshing to see some different faces in the winner’s circle today! It reminds you that it can be anybody’s day any given Sunday at this match! All are capable it’s just who is best that day!!!
Congratulations to Bill Hounshell for taking the top honors today! Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill! Way to go Bill!
Roger Eames was back in full force today after some medical issues had him suffering a little bit in shooting! Great way to come back Roger and grab that 2nd spot!
No stranger or newcomer to the the money round, Dusty Quinn reminded us he’s always a contender when it gets down to it!!!
Ronnie Davis dug deep in the qualifying rounds to make the cut and rounded out the top 4 shooters today.
In the factory class Pam Monts maybe Doty maybe not Doty, held it together calm cool and collected to edge out Rock morris for the factory class win!
Doug “Bunger” Wineinger was your cold bore top shot today!

Well Asteroid Precision Rifles & Silencers was on the road today playing match director for the Burkburnett 600yd 6mm Shootout at the Red River! $4,400 dollars in prize money was paid out today!!!
We had 25 Top Notch Shooters battling it out today. We ran them all through 3/15 shot qualifying relays and got through the finals bracket all in just over 3hrs! Just in time for the wonderful lunch that was provided.
The top shooter today was Ronson Childers edging out those other 7 finalists to claim the $1,000 1st Place Prize.
Nipping close on his heals was fellow shooter Tyler Rust who claimed the 2nd Place overall prize money of $750
3rd Place overall was Sam Marks pocketing the $500 that went along with it.
Rounding out the top 4 in 4th Place of the overall was Terry Pieratt claiming the remaining $250 overall prize money. Still not a bad day at the office.
Today we did something else with prize money donated by our fine Sponsors of Fatboy Trucking & Dirt, A Winner Bolt Electric, Hill Brothers Custom Homes and Hill Brothers Welding & Construction! A Huge THANK YOU to these companies for contributing $1,900 in added prize money. This added money paid out $500 each relay to the top 3 shooters in that relay as well as $400 for the Cold Bore Jackpot.

We had another fantastic “Greatest Lil Match in Texas” today at Way-Out-West Shooting Center!!! It was hot and the winds were a little tricky at times! The skill levels that these shooters are achieving and have achieved is simply amazing! I would put just about any of them against anyone in the world in a head to head competition!!!
Today’s top dog was Dusty Quinn, he 4 out 5 shots on the 3 inch plate his way right through the finals and secured that top spot! This after missing the last month or two at least. Just goes to show that these are fundamentals being learned and that they can be drawn on at any future time!!!
2nd place was Mr Billy Stephenson and he’s going to kill me if I spelled it wrong cause he’s specifically told me how to spell it several times! This is my dog and pony show though so……. Y’all know how that statement gets finished! Congrats Billy!
3rd place was Ryder Lee who can’t win a coin toss to say his life but put up a very impressive 38 out 40 possible points first thing this morning! I’m still waiting on a perfect score!!! Might have to put a bounty on and see if anyone leaps!!!
Rounding out the top 4 was Kevin Morrisey. Kevin shot solid all day and just came up a little short right at the end!
Ms. Pam Monts took the factory class win for the 2nd month in a row! She’s keeping the boys struggling to keep up but after today’s second qualifying round, I got feeling a couple of them will be gunning for her next month!
Rocky won the cold bore!

Haha! I just wanted to get his goat a bit cause we have that love to hate on each other kinda love every month!!!

Well it was quite the day for the June match, a lot of the normal crowd was missing, I guess the purse bearing fathers were not allowed to do as they wished for Father’s Day, who knew🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️! For the rest of the crowd we had a ball enjoying some sporty conditions and a few humorous moments.
One of the humorous moments lead to the winner so we’ll start there!
Brothers in Arms (true blood) were paired against each to see who got to vie for today’s only Top 2 shooters payout. The made a gentleman’s agreement that they would only shoot the 10” plate and then settle it in a tie breaker 3” plate shootout. I wasn’t quite sure that it would go down that way in true brotherly fashion! Then my spidey senses kicked in and I said watch one of you miss the 10”! Sure enough 3rd shot in Spencer had a dud load or something and missed the 10” plate, holding true to the task, Sam threw his next shot off the plate and we did end up in a tie. Sam ended up getting the better of Spencer and Sam Marks went on to defeat Rocky Doty in the 1-2 spot to grab the W and the cash that came with it!
Now speaking of Rocky and his 2nd place finish that leads me to the next chapter of the Pam & Rocky show. Please notice the order the names are placed in because after a week of Pam Monts teaching Rocky how to catch fish with a fly rod she showed him again today that she is the hunter and he is the gather! Pam in only her 6th match ever took 1st Place in the factory class. Some may argue the difference in classes but I’m sure all the Pam and Rocky show fans will be sure to remind him on his way back to the kitchen that 1st place trumps 2nd place no matter which way fillet it! Yes the pun is fully intended!!! Love you guys!!!
(Rocky asked me to be kind because of all insta-love he’s been getting from you fans!!! )
Now to the 3rd humorous moment, in true Barney Fife fashion Terry Pieratt was able to shoot one round this morning before having a rifle malfunction, I will point out it was NOT an APR&S built rifle! 😂 but that 1 round was good enough to win him the cold bore playing card jackpot! In the shooting world, be it hunting or self defense, it’s supposed to only take one shot and Terry proved he could get that done.
I threw a few range images in today, just for perspective of what hitting a playing card at 500yds on the first shot of the day looks like! Yes they have high power scopes but that’s still a chunk of real estate to cross!

We had another great match this Memorial Day weekend. These guys and gals just continue to amaze me more and more month after month. Let’s just start by saying that the match this month was decided because the guy that had hip/knee, sorry couldn’t remember which, replacement 2 weeks ago, ran out of ammo! After 2 lengthy tie breaking shootouts Ryder Lee had to concede the match and first place to Dennis Hays because he simply ran out of ammo!
Let’s not make this sound like Dennis didn’t do the work! Dennis now holds the majority of the records, if records were necessarily being kept, of not only the highest qualifying score with 70! He also holds the most cold bore playing card hits and I could probably think of a couple others he would hold if I wanted to dig that deep into it! Let’s just say, Dennis still fully deserved the win today even though Ryder had to bow out in the final shootout!
So Top Honors as well as the cold bore jackpot both went to Mr Dennis Hays.
Ryder Lee was today’s runner up after those ammo eating tie breaker shootouts.
The 3rd Place spot went to Mr. Troy Flayharty and rounding out the top 4 of the open class was Sam Marks.
Today’s factory class winner was Rock Morris who had already won the class by score yet decided to show the gallery that even factory class rifles will smack that 3” plate at 500yds when driven properly.
A few honorable mentions today are Dusty Quinn putting up a 64 qualifying score after having to miss the last 3 months due to family obligations. Dusty was very excited to realize that of his 30 shots today 19 were successfully placed on the 3” target! What he didn’t realize is that he had 6 more on there as well during his tie breaker shootout with Ryder, making it 25 out of 36! Ryder still had ammo at this point! 😂
Another point of interest is Pam Monts has successfully hit her cold bore playing card at 500yards at least 3 of the 5 times she’s shot at it, since just starting to compete in January. Reminding Rocky Doty of his continued place in the kitchen! Rumor has it as well that Nick Hill is still possibly trembling at the thought of Dennis being so destructive with a 308. Rumors often become legends when you have a legendary match, producing legendary shooters that do legendary s**t!!!
Next Match will be June 21 and don’t be surprised if something legendary happens again next month. “The Greatest Lil Match in Texas”, just because everything is bigger in Texas doesn’t mean that greatness doesn’t come from “Keeping ‘em small”!
