Created to introduce paddlers to one of the North Carolina Piedmont's most engaging rivers, The Haw River Canoe & Kayak Co. features canoe, kayak, standup paddle-board, and tubing rentals along three to 11 mile segments of the Haw River. For those who want to learn all they can about the river, guided canoe, kayak, and standup paddle-board trips are also offered throughout the year, and canoe and

kayak courses taught by experienced instructors allow both novice and experienced paddlers to enhance their skills.

We had a gorgeous sunset on Saxapahaw Lake just before our Starlight Paddle last Saturday! Despite the clouds we still got some great stargazing in, but even more breathtaking was the incredible frog song in Frog Choir Cove! We heard at least 5 different species all calling at once, all around us! The "mep mep mep" of green tree frogs and "clickclickclick" of cricket frogs provided the main chorus, punctuated by the "waaaaah"s of Fowler's toads and "bunk"s of green frogs, with the trills of grey tree frogs bringing it all together! With a spectacular light display by the fireflies, it was a show we'll never forget!

This guided paddle will take us in loop around the lake, searching for the crepuscular wildlife that comes alive on the Haw as the sun sets! We'll look for herons, muscrats, beavers & bats while listening for frog song and the calls of barred owls. Suitable for all skill levels, with kayaks and canoes available! 🦉

It's hot out and the whitewater is still low, but do you where you can always go to beat the heat? Saxapahaw Lake! This beautiful reservoir on the Haw River has over a mile of wide open lake-like conditions and another 4 miles of flatwater upriver, with coves and islands full of wildlife to explore! With no public access for motor boats and scant rocks or waves, Sax Lake is the best part of the Haw for family-friendly paddling!

We have self-guided trips on Sax Lake almost every day, with both reservations and walk-ins welcome. With solo kayaks, tandem kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, and even the huge 10-man Voyageur canoe available, you can build the perfect paddling trip for your family!

Thank you to all the folks who came out to our guided Full Moon Paddle on Saturday! We had a huge group and everyone was so fun to talk to as we admired the rising moon and made our way up and down Saxapahaw Lake! It was a great way to welcome our newest guide Lachlan to the Haw!

It's finally happening! After a long wait and making extra sure the river was safe again, we're restarting our tubing trips THIS WEEKEND, with shuttled tubing opening in June! 🛟

We have a brand new tube takeout at Reverence Farms with an even easier trail to the shuttle, to the point we've decided that even our Tube & Hikers can just drop off their tubes & gear at the pickup spot before hiking up the Haw River Trail. We've also introduced double tubes, to make floating the Haw with your best friend or young child easier, safer, and more fun! 👫

Remember tubing on the Haw is a very river-level-dependent experience! Consider checking the USGS Haw River at Haw River gage - any level between 2.0 & 2.5 ft should be great! 🌊
