Happy Mother’s Day to all the baseball moms out there.

Realized today while trying to find some game pictures from this season we didn’t have many. With the short season I guess everyone thought there would be enough time to take pics. The older I get the more I see life lessons in everything, take advantage of every opportunity, tomorrow isn’t promised. If you took any game pics this season, of your player or any players, please post them in comments for people to see. Thanks!!!!

We were basically a third of the way into the season when it was cancelled. At that point the Graceville Tigers were in first place in the district. So I guess that makes us the 2020 PANDEMIC DISTRICT CHAMPS!! ⚾️🏆😁
There’s not going to be any year end sports banquets obviously, so I had the players vote on a few awards just to honor their hard work:

Golden Glove (the most reliable fielder):
JOSH WESLEY & ANTHONY WATFORD
Cy Young (the most reliable, consistent pitcher): NEAL ADAMS
Silver Slugger (the most reliable, consistent hitter): LUKE BLACKMON
Most improved (player who made the most gains from last season):
GABE NORSWORTHY & BRADLEY MASON
Tiger Award (the player who's considered a hard worker and great teammate):
JACKSON JERNIGAN & TANNER SPOONER
MVP (the player who's most important to the teams overall success):
NEAL ADAMS

After being stuck on 3 wins the last three season every player worked hard and got better everyday. At the end of the season we may not have won the district tournament but Coach Rod and I truly believe we were going to be a 12 or 13 win team and make the playoffs. The key to our belief was that the kids believed it too and it showed the last two weeks we played. They tied the win total from all last season in one week. I wish this team could have experienced the excitement of the end of this season, but.........

I should have done this a month ago, but like most people I was holding out hope we would still play even though we all knew deep down it probably wouldn’t happen. I wanted to take a minute to salute these senior baseball players and say a few words about what I learned about them in a short time.
Josh Wesley (1st baseman/Pitcher). Talented athlete. Always the first player to the field and worked HARD everyday no matter what. When he had to wait for his sister to get done with softball practice he didn’t sit in his car on his phone like most kids would, he would grab a tee and a bucket of balls and go to the batting cage. A great team leader that the younger players looked up to. (CorneliusSharolyn Wesley)

Jackson Jernigan (Centerfield/Pitcher). Practiced and played hard whenever he stepped on the field. Laid back kid but kicks it up a notch when he puts his cleats on. Great personality. Could always make his teammates and coaches laugh. Also a team leader. (Angie Jernigan)

Tanner Spooner (Utility Player). Played different positions, where ever the team needed him. Really wanted to play good and be successful. If he had a bad day at practice he would text me that he would be better the next day. Great team mate, wanted other players to succeed too. When he said “you want to hear something funny?” we knew a good story was coming. Lol. (Leigh Ann Spooner)

Andrew Wheatley (Rightfield). Had a pretty bad injury the first couple weeks of practice but was back on the field as soon as he could. Most kids wouldn’t have come back but he’s a very determined and tough kid. Came out every practice and gave 100% and took advantage of any opportunity he got. (Richie Wheatley)

Joshua Howell (Stat keeper/Team Manager). Very reliable young man. Volunteered his time to keep our scorebooks online, a huge help to a coach! Loved being around the field and was at most practices. (Teresa Morrow Howell)

All these players are very respectful kids that come from great families and will be successful in whatever path they choose. They were excited about our success this year and wanted it to continue. It was a pleasure getting to know them and their parents.

I also want to give a quick recognition to Cottondale High School’s graduating seniors. Avery Burkett, Jordan Braxton and Austin Grissett. (Mandy Scurlock Burkett Michele Lashley Braxton Michele Grissett). I’ve known these kids most of their lives and coached them when they were younger. Great young men also. In situations like this and last year with Hurricane Michael you put aside jersey colors and team mascots and realize we’re all in the same boat. All our area schools had seniors affected and our hearts go out to all of them!

How about those Tiger Baseball Parents!!! I asked them last week if they want to make some snacks for the ER workers at Jackson Hospital, I figured I’d be taking a few cookies or something. I ended up getting so much stuff I had to put the back seats of my Yukon down just to carry it all!! Big thanks to Mary Adams, AmyTodd Adams Mason, Angie Jernigan, Alex N Samantha Gordon, Nina Haddock, April Nichole Pelham and Mr. Wheatley. A bigger thanks goes to all the folks working on the front line. Wherever you’re at, STAY SAFE!!! If I missed anyone who made some sweets, I’m sorry. I’m still learning how to tag people on here. 😁

I’m fairly new to Facebook, just started it for this baseball page, but I have a lot of friends that have always sent me screen shots of crazy post that people put on here just so we can have a laugh. Some of the ones that have been sent to me by friends are actually post by coaches. They talk about kids not working hard, kids not caring, kids being lazy...... First of all, if I was a player, why would I want to play for somebody that always complains about me??? Second, it’s the coach’s JOB to get the most out of their kids. I’ve had seasons where we won 19 games and seasons where we won 8. Everyone looks at wins and losses at the end of the season, but I look at if I got the most out of a kid. The year we won 8 games I promise those kids played just as hard as the year we won 19. And finally, there are coaches out there that don’t work hard, don’t care, are lazy....... Don’t kids are learning from examples??? Maybe coaching supplements should be incentive based like teacher performances. Not so much win/loss record but, How much pride did you put in your facility? How do your players conduct themselves at school and on the field? How much respect do you have from the other coaches and officials? Maybe I’m just rambling from to much Netflix. Lol. Stay safe everyone!

I’ve seen on tv and heard on the radio that some people don’t agree with the stimulus checks we’re receiving during this pandemic. I’m not judging people, quite the opposite, I’d love to help these people feel better about themselves. So if you’re someone who disagrees with the checks or knows someone that does, please follow these few simple steps:
1. Let the check be deposited into your account.
2. Take one of your personal checks and write it for the amount of the stimulus check you received.
3. Finally, make it out to Graceville Baseball and mail it to:
Graceville High School
5539 Brown St
Graceville, Fl 32440

We will help out anytime someone gets money they don’t want. Thank you, stay safe and God bless America.

Some people fish to relax, some hunt, some cook but nothing is more relaxing to me than cutting a field and watching the sprinklers run. On a side note, has anyone noticed since they stopped us from playing the weather has been perfect. Where was this the first few weeks on the season?????
