A black belt is not one size fits all.

People learn differently.
Move differently.
Grow differently.
Mature differently.

But individuality cannot become an excuse for the absence of standards.

The standard should remain common.
The path toward it may look different.

Some students arrive through athleticism.
Some through discipline.
Some through repetition.
Some through resilience.

But lowering the standard to protect feelings, timelines, retention, or ego destroys the meaning of rank itself.

There is a difference between:
adjusting the teaching method
and adjusting the standard.

Weak instructors confuse the two.

A black belt should not mean:
“they stayed long enough.”

It should mean:
“they developed enough.”

Compassion without standards creates fraud.

One size fits one, not all.

The goal is not to create identical martial artists.
The goal is to create qualified ones.

I have had the absolute honor and privilege of teaching this beautiful family. Looking at this wonderful memory, I am reminded of how much joy and dedication they brought into our dojang.
​Today, we are saying goodbye, but definitely not farewell. As the Bermudez family takes on this next chapter, we wish them nothing but safe travels and endless success. Remember to always follow the "DO"—let it guide your path wherever you go.
​No matter how far you travel, you will always have a home, a family, and a place on the mats here at AMA. 🥋❤️

This time of year always brings a mix of pride and a little bit of a heavy heart. As an instructor, there is nothing more rewarding than watching your students grow, but it’s never easy to see them graduate from high school or college and embark on the next phase of their lives.

My first "domino" to fall this season is **Rowan**.
I want to take a moment to deeply thank Rowan and his entire family for their military service and their dedication to our school. As they prepare for their move to Washington, I find myself reflecting on the impact they’ve had here. I am definitely going to miss this young man and his family more than words can say.
Rowan, as you head out to your next adventure: Good luck and safe travels. Please never forget that you will always have a home and a family at **AMA**, and you will always have a special place in my heart.

The energy was HIGH and the competition was fierce! Saturday’s Sparring Competition pushed everyone to their limits and that’s exactly where growth happens.

Quick footwork, sharp strikes, and nonstop determination filled the ring. Every match showed heart, discipline, and the will to win! 💪🏾
