A Chance for Awareness is an organization founded to share awareness about Human Trafficking.

5 years ago, I retired from the Phoenix Police Department after a 25-year career. I can’t believe it’s been five years already.

Professionally, I’m honored to still be serving the public as a Special Agent with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, I investigate s*x trafficking and conduct undercover operations that are no longer limited to the city of Phoenix.

They now reach across the state, including Indian Country.

Along the way, I’ve built collaborations and relationships with the FBI, tribal law enforcement, and the tribes themselves.

That kind of partnership matters because traffickers look for the gaps between jurisdictions.

I am grateful for the realtionships I have made with my brothers and sisters in blue! 💙

Looking ahead, I plan to:

➡️ Continue educating law enforcement & the public
➡️Host more female undercover schools and train the next generation of female undercovers, trained by a female undercover
➡️Provide advanced human trafficking investigation training to agencies nationwide

It has been a true honor to serve the citizens of Arizona and to support the law enforcement agencies I work alongside today.

“It was their choice.”

One of the most common defenses traffickers use is the idea that their victims willingly chose to participate.

But was it really a choice?

When someone is being manipulated, threatened, controlled, or made to believe they have no other option, we have to look beyond the word “choice.”

Traffickers know how to exploit vulnerabilities. They use love, trust, fear, financial dependence, and emotional manipulation to gain control over their victims.

And just because someone doesn't physically fight back, try to escape, or even recognize that they're being exploited, doesn't mean they are choosing to be trafficked.

Compliance does not equal consent.

Understanding the difference between choice and coercion is critical to recognizing human trafficking and changing the way we talk about victims.

It’s not about love—it’s about profit.

Traffickers make a lot of promises—but the one thing they’re most consistent with is their threats.

They use fear to keep control, silence victims, and make leaving feel impossible.

That’s why it’s critical for parents and teens to recognize the warning signs early and understand how manipulation really works.

Change doesn’t start “out there.” It starts with you.

If you care about what’s happening in your community — the safety of kids, the rise of exploitation, the blind spots people don’t see — then get involved.

Learn. Ask questions. Support local efforts. Volunteer. Share credible information. Have hard conversations.

You don’t have to wear a badge to make a difference.

You just have to decide you’re not going to look the other way.

I am not asking you to donate anywhere unless you want to contact me to discuss organizations, I would recommend that are actually helping survivors and are actually helping law enforcement.

The most dangerous word in the pimp subculture isn’t a slang term. It’s “choice.”

A skilled trafficker doesn’t only control victims. He controls the story. He tells her she "chose" this, until she says it and belives it herself.

Listen to the language. Choosing up. Choose-up fees. Choosing one pimp over another. The vocabulary is built to make control sound like free will.

But when someone has to pay a fee for the right to “choose” who controls her, who is actually choosing?

I’ve worked these cases for over 16 years. This word is one of the oldest tools in the trafficker’s playbook, and it works best when the public repeats it for him.

Don't live in Arizona, find out if your state has a hotline or call the National Hotline.

Because recognizing something is wrong is important, but knowing what to do NEXT matters too.

Imagine you’re 15.

Someone convinces you they understand you better than anyone else. They promise you freedom, love, a better life… so you run away.

Then everything changes. 🚨
Your phone is taken.
Your money is gone.
Your ID and belongings are taken.
You don’t have a car.
You don’t know where you are.
And the person who promised to “take care of you” is now the person controlling EVERYTHING.

Where do you go?
Who do you call?

How do you get home when everything you had to help you leave has been taken away?

THIS is the reality we need people to understand. 💔

Trafficking doesn’t always begin with someone being physically kidnapped. It can begin with trust, manipulation, false promises, and someone slowly taking away every option until a young person feels like there is NO WAY OUT.

That’s why we have to have these conversations BEFORE our kids find themselves in a situation they don’t know how to escape.

Have the difficult conversations. Build the trust. Make sure they know that no matter what happens, they can CALL YOU.
