Smart food = NOT smart 🤣Sad but true.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately Smartfood is NO BUENO with a score of 7.

Remember you can download the EWG APP on your phone for easy access to health and nutrition information pertaining to food, beverage and even beauty and household products.

This score is based on ingredients, ingredient concerns (un-intentional ingredients: pesticides, toxins, plastics, other chemicals etc.) and processing.

Another cool feature: EWG will give you a breakdown of the “good” and “bad” as well as healthier options for a similar item.

Jackson’s Sweet Potato chips made with Avacado oil for the win with an EWG score of 4.5. I was surprised that this brand (my first time sampling this brand) did not score better than Terra’s sweet potato chips based solely on it’s SIMPLE and CLEAN ingredients (3). Jackson’s is made with avocado oil vs Terra’s made with seed oils.

WORKOUT WORRIES: MISLEADING. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. LIES. about PROTEIN POWDER!

Mamovation sent 11 protein powders (mostly Organic-which supposedly have a “higher” standard of nutrition and processing) to 2 different EPA certified labs to be tested.

Orgain Protein Powder was 1 of the 11 tested for: glyphosate, 500+ additional pesticides, heavy metals, PFAS, and phthalates.

Here are the ingredients that the consumer ASSUMES they are buying/ingesting: Ingredients: Orgain organic protein blend (organic pea protein, organic brown rice protein, organic chia seed), orgain organic creamer Base (organic acacia, organic high oleic, organic erythritol, organic alkalized cocoa, organic acacia, organic natural flavors, sea salt, organic reb a (stevia extract), organic guar gum, natural flavor, xanthan gum. (all of which are deemed “safe” by General Nutritionists).

Here is a list of ingredients NOT LISTED: Also to be noted (more common sense) just because these contaminants are not “intentionally added” doesn’t mean they will not impact your body and health over time and usage.

Take the guessing out of your food choices!!

You can Download the EWG app for your phone and scan the barcode on your food or drink of question. (If it’s not found in the database you can take a picture and add the food/drink and EWG will work to add it. No, I don’t work for EWG nor am I getting paid by them).

Here’s a little bit about their database. Get to know: EWG’s Food Scores

How do we know what we’re eating, really? There are so many claims on food labels these days, and ingredients no one can pronounce.

We created EWG’s Food Scores because we all want to know what we’re putting in our bodies. Food Scores rates more than 80,000 foods, 5,000 ingredients and 1,500 brands.

Many other food apps rate food products on nutrition, but EWG went two steps further. Products are rated based on three elements: nutrition, ingredient concerns and degree of processing. We combine these three scores into a single overall product score. We weigh nutrition most heavily, ingredient concerns next and processing relatively lightly. We rate all foods on a 1 to 10 scale, with the best foods scoring a 1 and the worst foods scoring a 10.

*Remember just because you buy something at a “health food” store does NOT always mean it’s HEALTHY!

Common scenario: plastic is bad and causes cancer.
Common resolution: I’ll make the “environmental switch” to “city water”because it’s safe, I’ll save money and I won’t be adding to the overabundance of plastic in our landfills.

Obvious WIN right? WRONG. Big wrong.

Come to find out our “safe” city water has 13 contaminants aka toxins in it!!! What in the actual sh*te! In fact Orlinda, Portland, White House, Hendersonville and Gallatin city water all have 13 contaminants!! (See picture on page 2). Greenbrier and Springfield have 15 contaminants!! (See picture on page 3).

•Because guess what: Legal does not necessarily equal safe. Getting a passing grade from the federal government does not mean the water meets the latest health guidelines.

What to do:
1. Check out the EWG website then use their free EWG tap water database to lookup your zip code! https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/

2. Contact your local official.

3. Research a quilt water filtration system that works for your household. (I love my Berkey).

4. Stop drinking tap water unless you’ve got a certified filter (over sink, under sink, whole home, pitcher etc.).

Having a special needs kiddo means you have to constantly think outside the box, outside the “norm”.
In this particular case a pair of lined Carhartt coveralls were just what Ramble needed to help increase lower body strength and agility.

Happy Monday y’all! I hope everyone had wonderful Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be grateful for!
I know I’m grateful for time off and blessed to spend this holiday with family but I’m ready to get back on my routine, back on the 🚂 and cleaner eating.
