We are the home to the Texas Junior High School State Rodeo Finals every May and we have rodeos at our JB Wells Park Arena almost every weekend. If rodeo is not to your liking take a look at our outstanding 9 hole Golf Course or see the Come and Take It cannon at our Memorial Museum. We are business friendly too. Just ask Adams Extract, Southern Clay, Jim H. Wilson, or Tropical Fusions a few of the companies based here. We are the crossroads of the Eagle-Ford Shale Oil Field. Such oil companies as EOG, Lucas Oil, and Marathon Oil have made Gonzales their regional home. The City of Gonzales and Mayor Isaac Anzaldua were honored to present a proclamation recognizing Tejano Heritage Month to Gonzales County Tejano Association President Thomas Enriquez.

The proclamation was presented at the Historic Riverside Building, which originally opened in 1914 as the Water Street Mexican School, later known as Riverside School. This building served Mexican American students in Gonzales until 1948 and later African American students until 1965.

Pictured behind are the Tejano and Texian Informational Panels, which highlight and share more about the history and contributions that helped shape our community.

As Thomas shared, “Tejano Heritage Month is a time to reflect, remember, and honor the heritage, legacy, and heroes that fought alongside General Sam Houston against Santa Anna’s Mexican army.” Our community’s history is made up of many cultures and traditions, and Tejano heritage is an important part of the Gonzales story.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE & POSSIBLE WATER SERVICE INTERRUPTION 🚧

Tomorrow 9/16/26 crews will be installing a water service line at 926 Church Street. Church Street will be barricaded between Wallace Street and Saint Andrew Street from 8:30 AM-1:00 PM.

Possible water shutoff: Church Street, Wallace Street to Saint Andrew Street, may experience a water interruption from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM, depending on the work.
