Please protest the city council’s proposal to arbitrarily shut down our business on certain days this summer. It’s a slippery slope when government starts dictating what your business can sell and when.

We are asking local businesses to please support us by speaking at public comment this Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30 or send your comments to [email protected].
In sum, they aim to shut us down on Buffalo Bill Days, 7/27 this season and not allow any business to sell tubes on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August. Next year, they could potentially shut us down up to 5 days during our short summer season (6 weeks peak season). This lost income could equal the cost of roughly 10-15 local employee jobs- GHS students, School of Mines students, Jeffco bus drivers, and teachers work for us.
Our industry contributes over $400,000 in sales taxes ($13 million in sales) per Visit Golden’s geofencing tracking data. Moreover, 80% of our customers visit other establishments in downtown Golden.
SAFETY and RESPECT for the creek corridor are priorities for Adventure West. We have done nothing but partner and support city, police, fire, and park’s proactively for eight years including:
~No deaths on the creek within city limits in 3 years!
~Life jackets and helmets free with every tube rental
~Providing a safety/tubing tips talk and video promoting water safety and etiquette in the creek corridor.
~The city and outfitters do not open the creek to tubing/swimming until the flow rate drops below 700 cfs (was 1000), use of warning flags, large sign warning of dam, tubing wayfinding etc.
~70% of our customers ride a shuttle, which gets them off the path and discourages lingering on “beaches”.
~No alcohol policy at our stand, in our shuttles, or on the creek.
~Complying with all city permit requirements- $150 permit fee, 5% of all tube rental sales paid to city, $5 of every tube sold paid to city in addition to normal sales taxes
~Complying with limits set in 2021 and never increased on # of tubes we can rent daily- we stop renting additional tubes by noon sometimes and take a huge financial hit
~Adventure West donated the most business volunteer hours to Clear Creek Cleanup last season on a weekly basis
