Get Involved in a Club
Many riders do not live where there is riding, or where their favorite riding is - but that should not stop you from getting involved in a club.
Clubs are the foundation to snowmobiling. They built the trails, working with local landowners and volunteers. They continue to brush and do the maintenance on the trails. The landowner relationships continue. The signs are another duty that falls to the club volunteers. And that's all before a groomer ever moves.
Clubs need members -- but they also need volunteers! The brushing and signing starts now - before hunting season and before it gets cold and freezes. Brushing and marking takes time. It's work that is often overlooked and doesn't get the headlines....but it is what starts the season!
There was a snipet from an interview with Deviant Ink and David and Melissa Wagner from Utah. The discussion focused on the importance of clubs and getting the next generation involved. There were many responses and opinions. Discussion is good - hopefully it starts a movement. Clubs need assistance - they are always looking for new people, new hands, new ideas. But like everything - it takes time!
Clubs are a bit protective - they've invested a lot of blood, sweat and tears through the years. They've spent hours working with landowners building relationships and trust. The volunteers have begged, borrowed and held every type of fundraiser possible to keep things up and running with tractors, groomers, fuel, insurance and all of the little things. But the clubs are looking forward to new members and volunteers and welcome the extra hands and ideas.....and building new relationships and mentoring.
