Mayfield Varsity Panthers Defeats Northville On Back Of Clutch Display From Cubby Roth

Cubby Roth drove in four runs on two hits to lead Mayfield Varsity Panthers past Northville 14-4 on Friday at 27 School St. In the fifth inning, Roth tripled, scoring three runs.
Northville opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Northville first got on the board when Sal Pagano singled, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the first inning, Mayfield Varsity Panthers went back into the lead after Aiden Horn singled to center field, Grady Shea grounded out, and Carter Goodemote walked, each scoring one run.
Northville took the lead in the top of the third. An error scored two runs, to give Northville the leg up, 4-3.
Pat Allen walked, which helped Mayfield Varsity Panthers tie the game at four in the bottom of the third.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Mayfield Varsity Panthers went back into the lead after Noah Schoner was struck by a pitch, and Roth grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.
Mayfield Varsity Panthers scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shea singled, scoring one run, Roth tripled, scoring three runs, and Allen singled, scoring one run.
Roth earned the win for Mayfield Varsity Panthers. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking three. Kaidyn Tran took the loss for Northville. The pitcher went three and one-third innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on three hits, striking out three and walking seven. Horn started on the hill for Mayfield Varsity Panthers. The starter allowed three hits and two runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one.
Shea went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Mayfield Varsity Panthers in hits. Mayfield Varsity Panthers had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Goodemote, Landen Clark, and Landon Conyne led the team with two walks each. Horn, Conyne, and Roth each stole multiple bases for Mayfield Varsity Panthers. Mayfield Varsity Panthers stole 12 bases in the game.
Jace Sikorski drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northville with two runs batted in. Pagano, Tran, Brayden Winn, and #5 each collected one hit for Northville. Northville turned one double play in the game.
