WAR FOOTING - The USS Truxtan cleared the Coleman Bridge toward NWS Yorktown, where it joined the USS The Sullivans for munitions loading/unloading. Navy activity has picked up quickly this month after the Hamas invasion of Israel.

THE WORLD - Albeit pretentious, that’s the name of a massive cruise ship that anchored overnight in the York River. It presaged the coming (and controversial) Princess liner with 3,000 passengers disembarking at Yorktown. But this one has only 150-200 passengers who own 165 condo apartments worth millions. As the name implies, the course is around the world. At 644 feet and 12 decks tall, it’s by far the largest ship to reach the York River since the aircraft carriers of WWII. The USNS Zeus at Cheatham Annex is 513 feet and half as tall.

SHIPS PASSING – After transiting the Coleman Bridge from NWS Yorktown, the USS Mason slowed in the York River channel to pass an inbound US Navy submarine.

COLE EXITS - The iconic USS Cole passes the American Revolutionary War Museum on the way out of Yorktown and off to sea. Then the Coleman Bridge got stuck open for 30 minutes, backing up traffic for miles in both directions.

SUMMER'S END - Couples enjoy a romantic turn on the bow and sunbathing on the deck as summer winds down. Soon the dolphins will depart.

INSTINCT – For the first time this season, a dozen dolphins surrounded Let’s Go Sail and ran for 25 minutes beside us. We had an old beagle dog aboard, and they may have reacted to his snoring by attempting to protect him. Regardless, it was an exciting sail.
