Sometimes there is a special person that has an idea so big that they have to shout it out. It might be a quiet shout, or the shout may come in the form of a slideshow to his school principal!
Without Clint L., this Fishing Club would not exist! He advocated and created, he worked and he planned. And made it all happen!
My greatest gratitude goes to Clint. We have all become better friends, we have all learned more, shared what we know, enjoyed the earth more, helped the earth more, and we always “Accept all, Respect all, and Catch all!”
Thank you to Clint, and his amazing Mom, Lori, for casting a line of hope…you reeled in something so special!
See you at the pond 🎣♥️🎣

What a fun day at the Pond for our final club outing for the season! We are so grateful that we got to see so many friends fishing together! And thanks to Mikella Farrell, we had plenty of absolutely delicious snacks to enjoy! Thank you, thank you for your tremendous support, Mikella!
It’s been such a fun run for our new club, and I am so grateful to all of the parents for getting their anglers to our meetings and events!
We will be back for the next school year and if anyone would like a meet-up over the summer, I am happy to coordinate!
Wishing you all a fabulous summer of fun, friends and some fishing 🎣☀️🎣

Wow, great news for MD!

The total population of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay has grown in the past year, and so did the population of juvenile blue crabs. Maryland DNR today announced the results of the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Winter Dredge Survey, a cooperative effort between DNR and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.

The survey estimated a total of 349 million blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay in 2026, a 46% increase over the estimate of 238 million crabs last year. Scientists also estimated 228 million juvenile blue crabs, an increase of 121% from last year. This above-average abundance is a promising result to fisheries biologists, after what had previously been six consecutive years of below-average juvenile recruitment. The total abundance and juvenile abundance were at the highest levels since 2019.

“It’s very encouraging to see higher levels of blue crabs and juveniles, especially after a few years of lower juvenile recruitment,” Mandy Bromilow, DNR’s blue crab program manager, said. “However, we’ll still have to remain vigilant about the population, given that we have seen declines since 2011.”

I am so grateful for this group! We were met with a waterway that is completely different than any we have walked up to before. And so we all tried different techniques and lures and brainstormed together. They threw lines from the sand, from the rocks, and while waist-high in the water. It was so fun in so many ways, casting lines and skipping stones 🎣😎🎣
